You are essential, your nanny is not. |
You’re exposure risk is high, if you’re treating and/or testing for covid. Your nanny’s only exposure is your family. She’s not likely to get vaccinated more quickly due to your job. Unless you’re treating Congress, generals, the president, etc? Then she might be essential enough to be fast tracked? |
You could quit. I only hire smart people. |
Unless the nanny has a disability that prevents them from vaccinating, I don't think that people who don't get vaccinated are a protected group. Other than being part of a protected group, or certain protected actions (e.g. calling CPS as a mandated reporter) you can fire someone for any reason at any time. |
Why would anyone not want to get the vaccine? Truly curious here. |
Do you have it in writing in her contract that she must take the Covid vaccine or she will be fired,? No, you don't. |
Allergy. Religious reasons, anti-vaxers. |
I can’t be “essential” without our nanny. |
Allergic reactions to vaccines is the number one reason that they are citing for not wanting to vaccinate someone. There are also people with compromised immune systems that can’t get it. Anti-Hadeera and religious reasons are preference, not medical impossibility. |
Yes you can. Daycare is open, and there are other options. Your nanny is not exposed to as many people as front-line healthcare or grocery workers. |
There are small numbers of adults who are not advised to get a vaccine. Safety is not established in pregnant women. There have been a few life threatening reactions to mRNA vaccines in people with histories of anaphylaxis, and right now people who have a history of anaphylactic reactions to other vaccines and I believe other medications, are advised to wait. People who have a severe reaction to the first dose might be prevented from getting a second dose. There may also be people who have significant immune issues either innate (e.g. SCIDS) or acquired (e.g. transplant patients) who can safely take a vaccine but may not benefit. Those people would be protected under ADA and employment law, and you would not be able to fire them for not getting the vaccine. There are also large numbers of people who do not understand the vaccine, or deny the seriousness of the virus, or don't believe in vaccination, and will choose not to get it, even though getting it would be the prudent thing. Those people are not protected by employment law. Employment law allows people to be fired for no reason, or almost any reason, as long as they aren't being fired for for their race, or gender, or disability or a few other things. |
What kind of religion advises against vaccines? |
Nonsense. |
“Among the few religions with an absolute objection to vaccines include: Churches that rely on faith healing including small Christian churches such as Church of the First Born, End Time Ministries, Faith Assembly, Faith Tabernacle, and First Century Gospel Church. The First Church of Christ, Scientist (Christian Scientist) believes in healing through prayer and that vaccines aren't necessary.” https://www.verywellfamily.com/religious-exemptions-to-vaccines-2633702 Some Orthodox Jewish and Muslim groups believe that cutting into or injecting into the body is forbidden. It’s pockets within the Orthodox communities. There are other pockets elsewhere for other religions. |
End time ministries. I guess they don't really need to plan too far in advance. |
