Coping with nanny cams RSS feed

That may be acceptable to your employer, if you are completing all your duties. It will not be acceptable to them if they keep returning to an empty pantry, dirty playrooms, no clean laundry, no good kids meals, kids late to classes, etc. Then you're done for.

Otherwise, nanny cams can show off your childcare skills and time mgmt skills. But if you're off camera sleeping in the basement two hours every afternoon, people will know. Just like if the toddler is roaming around the house while you browse on your smart phone, people will know.

This poor poster should get a life. Poor thing.

And there are no laws to stipulate what may be done. None.

Those domestic worker activists need to get on this, and get some laws on the books to protect the nanny's privacy rights.

All other workers have legal protections.

Every other unskilled labor job that doesn't require a degree is also usually monitored with cameras. Why should it be different for a nanny?

You should know the saying - If you have nothing to hide....

Are you 15:24? If not, move along. If so, you should know if your "nanny" needs supervision, she's a sitter, not a nanny. Nannies know how to do their job and are there to help you do yours.

If that is your true understanding of the world, you need to be educated. Even CEOs have to answer to the board. President has to answer to the citizens and is checked by congress and the supreme court. Everyone in the world is accountable to someone. As a nanny, by no means do you get to call the shots. You are sorely wrong if you think this.

As a parent you are accountable to whom, Einstein?

Trying to be smart heh? I am not getting paid to parent nor was I hired by anyone to do so, my partner and I chose each other so we are accountable to each other. It is purely a labor of love.

You, Bozo, should know all other employers have laws to limit the use of the footage. Their employees get written notification of their legal protections.

Btw, Bozo, lots of degreed workers are also monitored. Bozo.

If the care of your child was such a labor of love, why are you running out the door every day?

As an MB who doesn't have cameras (but "monitors" our nanny so to speak by the fact that my children are happy to see her every day), I am super confused! Do these parents work 8 hours then come home and watch the footage for 8 hours? That's nuts! I have to say I would be very uncomfortable with someone seeing footage of me when I am alone with my kids on the weekend, being goofy and playing with them in a way I wouldn't if an adult was around... This is am issue where I side with nannies for sure, the whole camera thing is weird.

They work and watch their cameras with their iPad propped up on their desk with the Dropcam app. Source: I do this.

I like seeing my son and like knowing what nanny is doing and that she is safe.

I can understand this, I feel really happy and reassures when our nanny sends photos of my son during the day. Still, I am picturing how I ride around like a horse neighing with my son on my back and how weird I would feel if that were being filmed and watched! But my son was older (2 plus) when I left him with a nanny so I could rely on his response to her, in terms of understanding that he feels safe and cared for, much more than one could with an infant.

Curious: nannies, do you get used to the camera, or does it inhibit how freely you can play with your charges? Being a good nanny or parent is of course about being alert and keeping them safe, but you also have to be relaxed and goofy when you are with kids all day (I do anyway!).

Parents who leave their little child with an untrustworthy person are despicable. Is that fat paycheck really worth it?
