Snow day? RSS feed

I am the Pp who mentioned the accident. Today was fine. The roads were clear.I had no problem with coming in late. Last time it snowed it was dangerous. If it's clear I have no problem coming in. But Ill never risk my safety and car again. Think of it this way. If an Mb wrecks her car she can most likely replace it more easily than a nanny.

I went to work today, so my nanny came in. This is the first post-snow day I have done that but the roads were incredibly clear. Why are people complaining about working today? Now, I definitely wouldn't have gone to work after the last snow storm. The roads were a mess. Can't people just use common sense? If it is OK for me to drive in, then it is OK for the nanny to drive in. It's not rocket science.

That logic makes sense. The lines become blurred when its "If its gross out and not really safe, I'll work from home and not drive, but I NEED my nanny to come in, so it IS okay for her to drive in."

MBs do occassionally drive somewhere other than the office. If nanny lives relatively close by and MB has been out driving around to be familiar with the state of the roads, then it's totally reasonable to ask her to come in even if MB's office is closed so she's not driving an hour into the city.

That's an awful lot of IFs.

IF Nanny lives nearby
IF MB/DB have actually been out and know the state of the roads
IF MB/DB have gotten off their butts long enough to shovel their driveway/sidewalk/stairs

THEN its reasonable to ask your nanny to come in while you work from home. If she doesn't live nearby, which is more likely the case, and you don't actually know the state of the roads, and you haven't cleared your driveway or walk because you're still sitting around in your pajamas, then it is not so reasonable a request to have her come in, and you shouldn't be surprised that she is annoyed with you. Get over it. Sometimes bosses are annoying. If you're going to be selfish, expect that she will notice.
