Oh the poor nannies that have to work today! This is why you put a snow policy into your contract so that we don't have to see the same posts saying that the mean boss is making you go to work today. There are plenty of people who still have to work today. It is not your concern how your bosses spend the day, home, work, out watching a movie, you are there to take care of the children, not judge the parents about how they spend their days.

Yes the poor nannies who complain about getting into car accidents when roads are dangerous. Why should they care that their bosses are sitting around doing nothing. They're getting paid a few hundred bucks a week, they should be grateful.

Nanny here: At this point in the year I have little sympathy for nannies who did not talk to their employers and set up a snow day policy. If you and your employer have a snow day policy and you have to work today then stop b*tching about it. And if working today violates your snow day policy then you should have firmly told MB and DB "I'm sorry but our contract clearly states that today is a snow day". Seriously ladies (and gents)- we've had a ton of snow this winter and this nonsense should have been figured out after the first snow storm if it was not already in your contract.

+1 totally agree. When the Feds are closed nannies should not go in. That's a good policy even if they don't work for the gov. Or you spend the night or db drops off the kids to you or drives you to work. So many options.

How many parents are really going to pick up their nannies from home?

They aren't. The roads are fine for the help, but its too dangerous for them and their snowflakes. I thought you knew! Something about being an hourly worker makes you immune to the dangers of snow and illness.

Mine did! They're willing to when I don't feel comfortable driving, which I very much appreciate.

Maybe I've just lucked out in the boss dept. my old db drove me to the airport in about 10 inches of snow and waited to make sure I made it on the plane. He stayed at the airport for 2 hrs because he didn't want me to be stranded there as the snow was still coming down. Thankfully my flight took off on time and DB made it home safe.

Live out nanny. Currently at work. Both MB and DB off and at home.

I was given the option to stay home. I live 16 miles away from my NF. The last time i drove in this weather the commute TO work was fine in late morning, but it was scary driving home at 7. The temperatures had dropped and the roads were frozen over, causing my car to slide around on 495, and i have 4x4. I'm not doing that again.

Roads are clear. My neighborhood was clear. Goto work.

There are so many other people that have to go in to work today. The cleaning crew at the building I live in was here bright and early this morning and the management office will be closed today. Life is not fair, get over yourself.

I'm a nanny and I think the nannies complaining about this are ridiculous. If the roads are clear, I will come in. I had to wait and come in 45 min late bc my street wasn't plowed but I ran it by MB and it was ok with her. She's working from home so why should I get a free vacation day bc the federal govt is closed?

Nanny here, I don't get paid for snow days so I can stay home, it is my choice, I don't like to drive when it is snowing.

It doesn't matter if the roads are clear. People in this area don't know how to drive when it rains! When it snows, they become ridiculous. I use to be a nanny. After a while, I refused to put my life on the line for a few measly dollars. That's why I found a new profession.

For the OP: Like everyone else said, get a snow day policy in place already! Or find a new job.
