Oh, get over yourself. 99% of people do not use a credit card. I use mostly cash during the week for gas, groceries, miscellaneous stuff, etc. It helps me keep track of what I spend throughout the week.

PP is correct. Most people do use a credit or debit card. Get with the times.

Which is why so many people are in debt.....

Which is not the subject of this thread. Glad it keeps you out of debt, PP.

Personally I would never do it. Ever. I used to nanny for newborn twins and once I only had cash. I had to take the damn stroller out and shuffle them into it and into the store and then back out again. They were 7 weeks old. It would
have been so easy to run in and run out but you just can't do it. Too many variables there.

Honestly...I'm sure it's not a big deal. Especially if you can see your car the whole time. However it's not my child and ill be damned if something happened to DC on my watch. I live in a really small, safe town and risk of anything happening is probably low but I just would rather not even go there. It's a pain sometimes but just adds another minute or two and gives me a peace of mind.

Never ever is a child in car unattended on my watch. Ever.

you can get a handy little thing called a reciept that, gasp, tells you what you spent!
I get cash back with my credit card and pay it in full every month. Thanks!

I don't care. I would do it. That being said, I would do it with my own kids- not my charges. I don't want to get ratted out.

There is a difference between being careful cautious and trying to create this perfect, impenetrable bubble for your DC to live in. I'm not saying leave the kid in the car for 20 minutes. I'm saying if you're running in to pay for gas, it's not a big deal. If I saw someone waking up baby twins to put them in the stroller to walk into the gas station to pay and then load them back up in the car I would honestly think you're a ridiculous, nervous wreck.

It's a small class at a public school so the parents/nannies just line up their cars in the loading zone, but we have to actually walk up to the gate to fetch the kids. If I get a good spot up front, I'm never nervous about just leaving the van door open and walking a few paces (with all the kids in plain site) to the gate. But where do I draw the line? What if I'm the fourth car back? Or the sixth? The baby is often sleeping, so I'm less inclined to drag all the kids in and out of the car. I'm nervous about other parents seeing noticing if I'm too far from the kids in the car.

I would not be comfortable with you walking out of sight of the van for several car lengths. I wouldn't bitch at you but I would ask you not to do it. I have a 7 yr old who I have occasionally left in the car (locked) to run in to get my 4 yr old from preschool. I am usually in sight of the car but cannot guarantee it as there is a crush of people and occasionally I have to go in and help her with something. I am now sending him inside while I wait with the car. If he goes out of sight, I at least know he is in a very small school area and where they know him. Plus there is only one other exit and its for emergencies only. Could you not send the older child (if he is 5 I would say he is old enough to be out of your sight for 30 secs if he is in the safer environment).

Ridiculous nervous wreck? Jeez you people are so harsh on these boards. Had I ran into someone who knew me or my charges (MB was very prominent in the community) I would have lost my job on the spot. Aside from that....you just don't leave children in the car unattended. Especially in the Summer months....which is when it was.

Really? Did you not read the PP who said her friend was arrested for doing something similar? I'm an MB and I've had multiple conversations with friends about how we can easily see how it happens. There are so many times where I would love to just run in somewhere for 1 minute when I can still see the car but the reality is it's not worth the risk, both the risk of something happening to the car/kids or to getting arrested. There are stories in the news not infrequently about something like that happening. I can't remember the details but there was one a few years ago about a woman who was arrested and her children were taken away from her and their father for the night because she left them in the car while she stood outside the car within sight of it. I thought it happened at an aiport but I can't remember for sure but in any case, it was something completely ridiculous that she never should have been arrested for but she was facing charges of neglect because of it. It doesn't matter if you think it's right or wrong, is it worth the risk of going through that with your kids?

Then use a debit card.
