Gas?

A criminal could rob the vehicle if they seen it running and not only your car but your charges will pay for your laziness.

I know it's a hassle and chances are nothing would happen but still, take them with you and keep a constant eye on them like you're paid to do.

I honestly think I've only paid for gas with cash once in my life, and that was because the credit card machines weren't working at the pump and I was running on fumes. So I honestly ask why pay with cash over card when it causes you the hassle of either bringing the kids in with you or leaving them unsupervised?

I was reading this thread earlier then I went to lunch with my charge. I saw a similar situation while put and was wondering what you ladies thought about it. A woman pulled up in front where I was eating on the front patio, she turned the car off got out and went to the meter leaving her child in the car. The meter was 5 car lengths behind. Obviously she was gone for less than 5 minutes but child (~1 year old) was sitting in the car alone. She came back grabbed him and went in the bank that was about a car length ahead of her car.

What do you ladies think of this? I was u comfortable because at first I had no idea where she was going, then I saw she was at the meter within sight for me but her child definitely had no clue where she went. And then I got a little mad because her destination was right there, so she could have taken the child to the meter and the go into the bank with him...

Nanny here. This is one of those instances where I believe if it is your own child you can take that risk but, as a nanny, I'm unwilling to take the risk with someone's child. It is very unlikely anything would happen in 2 minutes with the car off and locked and in plain view but they aren't my kids. If they were my kids I'd have no problem doing it.

Either a) get your gas on your own time if you want to pay in cash or b) use a credit card like 99% of all other people buying gas.

it does not take 5 minutes to feed a meter - it takes 1, tops 2 minutes, so personally i would not have a problehm with this since you are still outside right near the car, not inside a building.

Oh, get over yourself. 99% of people do not use a credit card. I use mostly cash during the week for gas, groceries, miscellaneous stuff, etc. It helps me keep track of what I spend throughout the week.

As a nanny, I wouldn't risk it. I have a credit card from the family that I am to use for gas, groceries and outings so I just use that. If I HAD to use cash, I'd take the babies out in their seats (I care for 3 month old twins). To me, it's just not worth the risk.

PP is correct. Most people do use a credit or debit card. Get with the times.

I have at least two kids with me while picking up a third from speech therapy. It's a small class at a public school so the parents/nannies just line up their cars in the loading zone, but we have to actually walk up to the gate to fetch the kids. If I get a good spot up front, I'm never nervous about just leaving the van door open and walking a few paces (with all the kids in plain site) to the gate. But where do I draw the line? What if I'm the fourth car back? Or the sixth? The baby is often sleeping, so I'm less inclined to drag all the kids in and out of the car. I'm nervous about other parents seeing noticing if I'm too far from the kids in the car.
