There is a difference between being careful cautious and trying to create this perfect, impenetrable bubble for your DC to live in. I'm not saying leave the kid in the car for 20 minutes. I'm saying if you're running in to pay for gas, it's not a big deal. If I saw someone waking up baby twins to put them in the stroller to walk into the gas station to pay and then load them back up in the car I would honestly think you're a ridiculous, nervous wreck.
Really? Did you not read the PP who said her friend was arrested for doing something similar? I'm an MB and I've had multiple conversations with friends about how we can easily see how it happens. There are so many times where I would love to just run in somewhere for 1 minute when I can still see the car but the reality is it's not worth the risk, both the risk of something happening to the car/kids or to getting arrested. There are stories in the news not infrequently about something like that happening. I can't remember the details but there was one a few years ago about a woman who was arrested and her children were taken away from her and their father for the night because she left them in the car while she stood outside the car within sight of it. I thought it happened at an aiport but I can't remember for sure but in any case, it was something completely ridiculous that she never should have been arrested for but she was facing charges of neglect because of it. It doesn't matter if you think it's right or wrong, is it worth the risk of going through that with your kids?
