I've been just recently employed, about a month and I just found out today that I'm 8wks pregnant.

What are my chances of losing my job?

Congratulations, OP!
What would you like to have happen?

Pretty likely, sorry to say. On a positive note, the weather is cooling off, so get some bulky clothes and keep that belly hidden until you're in a position to be out of work. Congratulations on the baby and good luck!

I feel like you should tell them what you'd like to do asap. If I were your MB I would be happy for you and want to support you as long as you could work. I would especially feel that way if we had a good relationship and the job was going well.

Well, OP, the truth is that women don't tell their bosses until the last minute, and those are women who enjoy legal protection from getting fired.

Unfortunately, nannies are excluded from the same legal protections that their bosses enjoy. So if you need this job right now, don't tell. It's a shame, but that's the way it is.

We women like to fight for women's rights, except when that woman is our child's nanny.

The hell with women's rights.

Ignore this!! You've known these people for a month. You have a child to think about, and you need to prepare for the worst. mBs are going to tell you to tell ASAP. They wouldn't, and you don't have to.

I would delay telling them as long as possible. The longer you're there the harder it will be for them to just fire you on the spot because you'll have a relationship with them. On the other hand if they do fire you 3-4 mos from now it will be impossible to find another job.

Unemployment, at the very least, don't you think?

None if you don't take a long maternity leave and make a child care plan for your child.

This is absolutely untrue.

Congrats OP! What great news!!!!!!!!

I don't know how your employer will take this. It's a toss up at this point. Some may let you bring your new baby to work, others will not be okay w/you bringing along an extra child, etc. You will need to address this w/your boss, but since you really need the income right now, I strongly advise you to not say anything quite yet just in case.

I wouldn't disclose your condition until a month or so. Keep in mind they probably will keep you on for the duration of your pregnancy, but could let you go after you have the baby. I hope they do not, but be prepared for anything.

Good luck.
