Night Nanny wage RSS feed

What's a reasonable wage for a night nanny to tend to a newborn for 6-8 hours a night 3-4 days a week so his mother can rest.
The family is in the Fairfax area.

For Fairfax? I'm a nanny, and I thought ffx/manassas area was significantly cheaper.

Do they have a place for you to sleep in the baby's room?

I'm not sure.

oh, sorry I'm the OP thought that was for me.

OP: those are the rates pretty much in and anywhere near every metro area. The jobs are temporary, disruptive to normal life and command a premium. But that assumes you're qualified- if you're not, then you'll probably want to ask a little less.

Through an agency they will definitely pay 27+.

The baby nurse thread got deleted?

I think a normal rate for 1 baby is $25-30/hour, although you might be able to find someone to do it for $20/hour. $35/hour for 1 baby seems high to me, but I'm sure there are some that get paid this.

It depends how qualified and experienced you want the person to be.

Not PP, but are you kidding me? A professional does not sleep on the job and certainly not at $35/hr. We paid $20/hour for NICU nurses for our twins 3 years ago. They did not sleep, cleaned up the bottles and even gave meds. We got a discount because they knew us from our long stay in the NICU prior and I have "paid them back" by referring them multiple times since then. I still get emails asking for a reference from time to time. We live in Bethesda.

There are a lot of jobs that allow the night nanny/newborn care specialist to sleep while the baby or babies are sleeping. It really depends on the length of shifts you are doing, what the parents want and of course if the babies have any special needs that need constant monitoring. If you are working 24 hour shifts, then it's only natural that you would sleep when baby sleeps. However if you are working 8 hour shifts, then you would most likely stay awake.

Not every night job has enough bottles to keep you busy all night long. So yes. You sleep while you wait for bottle time.
