A family in my neighborhood hired a nanny a few months back for their infant babies. The babies were born at 25 weeks and spent many months in the NICU. I don't know the family very well, but since I have twin toddlers myself, I like to stop and say hi when I see them. The Dad is very lukewarm, so I avoid him. Mom is nice but works now so I do not see her. The grandparents were here helping out and are very nice. Here is the issue: the nanny takes this kids (now 8 months, but the size of 3 month olds) on LONG, LONG, LONG walks outside. I am talking like hours at a time. Multiple times a day. At first I thought I was imagining things, but she leaves the house with the kids in the stroller and her IPOD in as I am leaving. 2 hours later I see her coming home. Or I will see her walking a couple miles away from home in the am, then see her back walking there in the afternoon. I sincerely doubt that she is going out every hour, so I am pretty confident now that she has them in the stroller walking for several hours a day. This just seems insane! I stopped her today and said hi. I said they must really like stroller rides. She said yes, it calms them. That's great, but it really isn't good for a baby to be stuck in a carseat stroller for so long each day. And I know that when you have twins, each baby does get less hold time and more sit time than a singleton. Would you want to know this if these were your babies? I very well may be way off and the mom wants the babies to be out in the stroller for long periods of time, but it still seems wierd. Should I just let it go?

I'd drop a note in a sealed envelope in their mailbox and then let it alone.

yes but make sure you wear gloves while getting the paper, writing the note, sealing it in an envelope (make sure to seal it with water from a public water fountain - they can trace water back to your house) and wear gloves as well as shoes in the wrong size when dropping it in their mailbox. Also, wear a shower cap so none of your hair falls on their property.

I guess my question is - isn't this a bit too long for any baby to be in a stroller for? I certainly would not have wanted my twins stuck in the stroller for many hours of the day. Just seems a little too much.

The sealed envelope is in case the nanny takes in the mail, Einstein.

It's ridiculous. I would have been furious if my nanny had done this with my twins. She's lazy, bottom line.

Mind your own business. You're bordering on stalking.

She's lazy? She's out walking around with them...not sitting on her ass on the couch while they are on the floor. You sound like a moron.

OP...leave it alone. A LOT of parent's like their nannies to take the kids out for walks. I care for 1 year old twins and we could on two walks a day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon after naps. We walk about 1-2 miles each time and they LOVE IT. It's good for them to get fresh air. Before you know it, it's going to be snowing and they won't be able to get outside at all. She's not sitting on her ass inside ignoring them....so seriously, leave it alone.

Leave it alone and find something more productive to do with your time.

Are the parents or grandparents home during the day?

Nanny might be going outdoors to avoid them.

However, this seems weird. Is she trying to get a workout or something?

I would say something, but not in a "negative" way.

OP here - I assure you, I am not stalking her. I initially noticed her because I saw a twin stroller and having twins myself it made me smile. I also thought, wow she is in great shape for having little twin babies! I stay home with my kids, so when I go out to drop off/pick up from preschool etc, I drive right by her walking route. It is more of a 2 hour round trip hike! After seeing her all over the place while I was out driving (twins tend to stick out), I started to realize that 1. those were my neighbor's twins and 2. she is out with them in that stroller for many, many hours a day. I just cannot imagine the parents (both work) wanting them to be out walking that much. Nanny always wears the exact same workout attire...everyday. That's why she sticks out so much. Sorry if my "stalking" is so horrible, but I would hope someone would tell me.

Tell her. I'm a twin mom and would want to know.

Tell them and then leave it alone. If the parents are ok with it, you'll see her continue to walk them for hours. If not, you know they didn't want her to do it. No one has mentioned the possibility that she is taking somewhere else. There have been cases of nannies dropping the kids off at their relatives/friends houses and picking them up later unbeknownst to their parents. Everybody is MYOB until something bad happens and then it is all the parents' fault.
