Is it wrong for an MB to read the nanny’s phone? RSS feed

If she pays for the phones, she gets access to it. Otherwise, it belongs on your person. Plug it in to charge in the car or at home, not at work.

You're the sick woman snooping on the nanny's phone?

I agree! You had no business whatsoever looking at your nanny’s phone! Holy hell, what is wrong with this poster?! The bathroom is part of the employers home, does the employer have the right to watch the nanny use it? What about going through the nanny’s bag when it’s sitting on the employer’s floor?!

It’s sick women like this that give MB’s a bad name on this board.

OP, your employer was wrong to read your phone. Period. End of discussion.

I would’ve quit on the spot.

You should have quit right on the spot.

So many trolls on this thread.

MB here. I've had a nanny for seven years. Would never dream of reading the nanny's phone. Just like I would never dream of going through their bag. Same invasion of privacy.

Are you going to quit tomorrow, OP?

The MB was dead wrong. There is no other way to look at this.

I would quit and consult an attorney.

OP here. My employers did not buy the phone nor do they pay for it. I have to charge my phone when my charge is napping (which she was) or it will die. I only use it when she is awake to take photos of her. I am older and just not a phone-all-the-time person.

I know I did nothing wrong and this was a violation of my privacy. Thank you all. Yes, I did give notice.

Wtf at all is this situation?? So glad you gave your notice. I hope you find something better soon!

Good for you OP for giving her notice.

She needs to learn to respect boundaries.

She was 100% at fault here & owes you a full apology which it sounds like you may never receive since when caught she was defiant vs. apologetic.

What the heck??!

No, it’s what’s written into my contracts. I’ve had several families that insisted that they be able to see my activity while with their kids. I explain that if they provide a work phone, they can check it anytime they want, and whether I leave it with them at the end of my shift or take it with me, I would still only be using it during work hours. I further explain that I’m happy to leave my personal phone elsewhere during my shift, but that I expect them to conduct all communications through email or my work phone, during and outside of my shift. Most families opt to drop it and not pay, some pay.
