| Why do you nannies have such contempt for your bosses? |
Well, I guess that's something. My employers seem to think I'm their cleaning lady, even though I never signed up for that. While I generally try to be helpful, it's now become an expectation. The children are getting neglected, just so I can keep up with their mess everywhere. Enough is enough. |
Because a lot of them are clueless and rude? Because employers don’t even see us a people half the time? Just look at the post in this thread implying nannies aren’t adults or homeowners. |
But presumably you use your weekends to take care of those types of issues, just like the parents do... but they have kids with them on the weekends, whereas (perhaps, I don't know about OP/in many cases) the nanny does not. Also, many (professional) parents also have to do carryover work from their jobs on the weekends that nannies do not. It's cute that nanny thinks every family has 2 parents and a billion family members taking care of the kids every weekend, but I think that's not remotely the case in most families that can afford a nanny and particularly in the DC area. But there are also lots of things that parents do/challenges that parents have with their kids that nannies do not with their charges. They may be different challenges, but they are still there. I don't think it's universally true that nannies have a "harder" "job" vis-a-vis their charges during the week than parents do vis-a-vis their kids on the weekend. |
While nothing is "universal", you clearly don't have a clue. People like you don't deserve a good nanny, so just stick with your babysitters. I seriously doubt you'd know the difference. |
I wasn’t arguing who has it harder (hint: both nannies and parents, but for different reasons) The contempt comes from the assumptions about what our lives are like when we’re not working. And the obnoxious habit some parents have of thinking they’re more important than anyone else |
| Just out of curiosity, what kinds of work do your employers do that they can afford a nanny and still both have every weekend completely off? |
If they love their work, why would they want to be "completely off" for two days? |
| Those parents are disgusting. OP pleass leave that job. |
Wow. Just wow. So you think that nannies are not adults, homeowners or parents?! I have no words for your particular type of stupidity. |
|
Honestly, I don't think the comment you are venting about was meant in anything but a complimentary way. Sometimes people just don't know the right way to say things, but unless they said this with some sort of attitude, I think you mistook it.
And, sure, weekends are the time working people, including nannies, get to do their other "job," taking care of their own homes and families. Except for people with with super flexible employers, weekends are packed for just about everyone! |
They really don't have a clue. |
+ 1. |
| I hope your MB sees this. |
Apparently because the employers think nannies are not adults, homeowners or parents. |
