MB's.... RSS feed

That's very nice from you OP. And exactly the kind of things I'd do as well (nanny here). I bet she will be touched

This story may not be particularly relevant, as I presented a bouquet to MB "just because," and not for a special occasion, like you are intending to do, but here goes.

Last October, I was out walking with my nanny charge. A little flower stand we pass by often was doing a special; their cheapest bouquets are usually $8, but they'd marked them down to $5 and they were buy-one-get-one-free. I decided to buy myself a bouquet, but was torn whether to keep the second or give it away. I honestly couldn't think of anyone locally I wanted to give it to, so I figured, why not just give it to MB. I was unsure whether to mention that I'd received it for free; I decided she didn't need to know how much it was, so I just said "I got them for you, just because" with a smile.

Boy, that moment was much more awkward than I'd expected. I instantly regretted giving them to her. Nothing major came of it, I'm still with the family, but... I wouldn't do it again.

Still, you're giving flowers as a congrats for passing the exam, great job on your hard work and not "just because," so that's probably a lot less awkward!

That's sad that it was awkward. She should have been pleased/touched.

I'm in the "please don't spend your money on me" column but I love when our nanny helps the kids understand how to make/give a gift.

I also agree though that celebrating your boss passing a test is a little odd/unnecessary.
some tests are actually a BIG deal. My DB is out of town taking a test that his job (and thus mine) depends on. When he passes you better believe there will be some type of celebration!

I got flowers from my MIL when I passed my board exam and became board certified in my specialty. It was weird. Of course it was nice when I got something from MY boss.

Flowers would be a nice gesture, but your MomBoss likely won't want you to actually pay for them out of pocket.

I suggest you go to a graveyard & take some.

Sorry, bad attempt at a joke. :/

Have your charge make her Mom a nice, homemade "Congratulations!" card + perhaps as an art project you guys can create some flowers out of construction paper or tissue paper.
