What would you think if your nanny bought you flowers as you had passed a work exam and said they were from her and your DD? Too much? I am considering doing it for my MB but worried it is a bit OTT.

Too much. Gifts flow downward. Pick a single flower and have your charge give it to her.

A $5-$20 bouquet from the grocery store? I love flowers, and I'd be touched.

Anything more expensive would make me uncomfortable, though.

Don't do it. Make a homemade "Congrats" card with your charge instead. Gifts flow downward. I would be uncomfortable.

I think it's sweet OP, but as others have said it would make me uncomfortable. Helping the child to make a "congrats Mommy" card would be lovely and I'd certainly know that you were the one to thank. But I feel very awkwardly about our nanny buying us presents of any kind.

Even a bunch of flowers which were very inexpensive? My MB is so fab, I guess it's my way of wanting to thank her for being so lovely to me all the time too. She treats me like gold and I want to give something back.

An inexpensive bunch of flowers would not bother me at all. I'd appreciate the thought.

There are charities where you can donate like $58 dollars in someone's name and a girl goes to school for a year. that would be better.

Posters like you aren't helpful.

One hour's pay or less and I'd be super touched. 1-2 hours and I'd be touched, but think it was slightly OTT. 2+ and I'd worry about paying you back, etc and it would be mores stress-inducing than appreciated. But, seriously, 1 hour or less salary with a handmade card from DD? Amazing.

I would think it was weird and a bit condescending to get a pat on the back for passing a test. That is something your mom does, not your employee.

So looks like about a 50/50 from the MBs responding OP. But if you've already decided your MB would like it then trust your instincts. People have different opinions.

I'm in the "please don't spend your money on me" column but I love when our nanny helps the kids understand how to make/give a gift.

I also agree though that celebrating your boss passing a test is a little odd/unnecessary.

some tests are actually a BIG deal. My DB is out of town taking a test that his job (and thus mine) depends on. When he passes you better believe there will be some type of celebration!

Thanks, I will do this.
