How much are LCCs paid? RSS feed

^^ PP here, adding that all LCCs I've known have had day jobs as well.

I would shop around, and please report back, we would love to know.

I would also suggest checking out the not for profit agencies (Europair, CHI and InterExchange). I wouldn't be surprised if they treated their coordinators better, since they are not all about raking in profits. My coordinator at IE has been doing a coordinator for over 20yrs. It's not her main job, and she is definitely doing this because she loves it (she was a host mom in the 90s).

CC advertised the position on Craigslist in my area. Our LCCs definitely earn the $25 per family plus mileage and fees for family meetings -- nowhere near 30k, and definitely not a livable income.

Considering their enormous workload, these wages are insulting.

Interesting! So you can swing a 9-5 along with being an LCC? I wasn't sure how the hours would be.

It depends how many families you want to service. My LCC limits her cluster to about 15 -20 families and our cluster rematch rate is apparently 12% (her words), so that's maybe 3 rematches per year. Aside from that, she needs to do an in-home visit with new and returning families, meet the new APs after arrival, run the monthly AP meeting, send a monthly newsletter, and make a monthly contact with the families (ours was by text or email). I am sure there is also some other admin stuff to do with the agency. All in all, I bet you it can probably done on average in under 5hrs per week (again depending on number of families you want to service, and how easy the families/au pairs are in your cluster...).

I think most of them do it more as a volunteer effort,
since the pay hardly covers your expenses.

I considered this job. The pay is a pittance for what the agency and the families ask/expect of them. I was told I would have 5-15 families, and would make about $500/year per family. You're expected to be available pretty much 24/7, and if you go away for some reason, you have to find someone to cover you. The cost of the meetings are on you. They classify you as a contractor, so you lose even more of your wages to taxes. It's a joke. Don't waste your time.

Which would be fine if we weren't paying 8K a year in fees. I naively assumed for a while that this person I had the most contact with was respectably compensated

The person you have the most contact with is your AP. We all know they aren't respectably compensated. Why would LCCs be any different. Someone at these agencies is getting paid, and it is on the backs of all of these women. It's disgusting.

totally agree. i happen to really like our LCC (who does have a full-time job and young kids) and it would be nice to know that more of our fees were going to compensate her rather than the folks at HQ who were extremely unhelpful the one time we went through rematch.

This is a pointless thread since no one seems to know for sure how much an LCC gets paid. My LCC has been working at the same agency for 15 years, and I doubt she would deal with all the drama, rematches, housing AP in rematch, meetings, etc, for a little pocket change.
BTW, AP are respectably compensated- it is a cultural exchange program on a J-1 visa, and AP have plenty of spending money.

I'm clearly an outlier here, but I have had much more meaningful interaction with my matching specialist than with my LCC. If my LCC is getting paid $25 per family per month, it's too much. She does nothing.

And for anyone saying APs aren't fairly compensated, I invite you to do the math and determine how much a young person from abroad could expect to pay for a full year's room and board and then add that to the ~$800 cash they get, plus in many cases access to a car and many other perks. Suck it.

This post is ignorant on every level.

Nice for you that you didn't need your LCC but it's like insurance. When you do need her, it can be intense.

I have an AP because no one would take my part time split schedule job. The idea that it's some amazing cushy job to live with your boss is just stupid. I can't find an American to do it for good reason.

The American isn't interested in a cultural exchange year in America, that's why.
