This. I get great mileage points I use for vacations. And they reimburse me weekly. Works out perfectly |
House manager position, handling over $5K for the household budget per month. I had money for rent, groceries and a few needed clothing items in the envelope, and someone grabbed the toddler with me. The choice was my purse or the child, and the parent had no issue with what happened. |
I would go with no longer carrying cash/your personal cards with you. Just tell her you are using a new budgeting system and are only carrying the cash YOU need for the day. She'll have to figure something out. I've had jobs (not nannying) that required reimbursement years ago. A work related credit card has been the go-to for years now. There is no reason MB can't figure something out, it's just easier for her not to. |
This. The parents need to learn some responsibility. |
FYI people that are paying a nanny to handle $5,000 worth of monthly household expenses don't pay their rent in cash from an envelope. Just thought you should know for making up stories. |

I'll tell you what I do.
I have a separate checking account where our AuPair is an authorized user with a visa card with her name on it tied to the checking account. I automatically deposit $400 into it on the first of the month, this is a standing deposit that goes in automatically. She leaves the receipts in an envelope for me. I can periodically check to make sure charges are correct. This works out very well because then I never have to worry about getting her money or paying her back. Sometimes for a job well done, or if the kids are realy assholes one week I tell her to use the card to get her nails or toes done on me ( she's really into her nails). |
Love the last part. How thoughtful! |
Some do Very few, I would agree, but the situation was what it was.

I always used my own card and then submitted receipts when I got my bill, and they reimbursed me that same week.
It totally boosted my credit score because it looked like I used the card a lot and paid it off every month, and I also got to collect the points. If you don't want to do that just tell them you dont have the money when they ask you to get them something. |
It's the small things that keep people motivated and happy. |
1,000,000 |
| ^^^ Ditto! |
| It can hurt your credit score if you charge more then 10% of credit limit on your card. |
Even if you pay it off same-month? Nah |
Not true. I run mine up very high and pay them off immediately. I financed a deck by maxing out 2 credit cards and paid it off immediately. All foe the points. I do absolutely every single thing on credit cards, even tried buying a 40k car on my amex and learned they won't let your do that. I have a score in the 800s. |
