Or maybe it is true:
Also from the CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/flu/news/updated-vaccine-effectiveness-2014-15.htm): When VE against all influenza viruses was combined, the overall VE estimate was 19% (95% CI: 7%– 29%). In practical terms, this means the flu vaccine reduced a person’s risk of having to seek medical care at a doctor’s office for flu illness by 19%. |
| I have been a nanny for 10 years, I have been out sick maybe 3 times. The Flu shot is ineffective, I did get Tdap because I work with the 0-4 group. |
| I get shots when I go to Africa or Asia but no I'm not getting a flu shot for you. My body my choice. |
| Pp again- I'm also never sick. My employers get flu shots and they are constantly sick. |
|
If you are stupid enough (yes stupid) to think that vaccinations somehow weaken the immune system or cause illness, you have no business working with children.
This argument is just absurd. If you coincidentally get sick the year, or the week, after you get the flu shot, that is all it is, COINCIDENCE. Do some research, stop using your own anecdotal references as some sort of actual fact. |

So fire her. Vax or no flu vax it's clear you don't respect her.
You can spend the rest of your pregnancy and maternity leave finding a nanny for your baby and other kids. I'm not sure what your reasoning for posting this. Are you a troll looking to to start a debate about the importance of vaccines? Are you a troll hoping to scare nannies into getting the flu vax so their employers don't fire them? |
+ 100. Nanny here ( already posted). I'm so sick of uneducated people saying vaccines are ineffective or lead to illness. They have no business being a nanny of they are unwilling to be vaccinated. I will never work for family that doesn't vaccinate. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Signed - A nanny and future pharmacist. |
The two of you cheapen your argument with name calling. TO the future pharmacist I hope your offline personality is far better than your online one- you'll come into contact with many people who do not share your views as a pharmacist , and you won't last long in your job if you call them all stupid. |
Too bad -- they are all stupid. Anti-vaxers should all be sterilized or live on Amish farms. |
Being in childcare means that you have to protect the wellbeing of the child. If she does not want to get a flu shot then suggest the nasal spray. If she doesn't fear getting your child sick then she may need to reconsider her profession. Good luck! |
+1 I was on board until you repeated the word "stupid". *cringe* |
The flu shot does temporarily weeken your immune system. Which is why some people do get sick right after. The people most benefited from the flu shot are young children and seniors. The flu shot has a very small impact on healthy adults, and while it probably won't make you sick it does increase susceptibility to viruses for a week or two while your body "fights" off the shot and builds antibodies. These are facts, you may look them up. However as a future pharmacist you should really be aware of both sides, there are always two sides. |

Let me preface this by stating that I'm a firm believer in vaccinations.
That being said, some people do have severe and unusual reactions to them. My niece almost died from a (verified by a team of doctors) reaction to the DTaP vaccine. Due to the severity of her reaction, she will never receive another DTaP, so she did not receive the full series. After that experience my brother and sister in law with her team of specialists have had to weigh the risks and benefits of each vaccination for her. At this point, they choose to skip the flu vaccine because it's not worth the risk. My point is that there are complex situations with vaccinations and not everyone who doesn't vaccinate is uneducated or stupid. |
