OP here. No reason beyond that I didn't need her there.

Nannies that would be offended or that want to go in the exam room , why do you want to go in the exam room and not wait in the waiting room ?

As a nanny, if I am not needed I would much rather be at my employers home doing things I cannot easily do when my charge is there. Why would anyone want me just to sit in the waiting room? If I cannot be of assistance in the examining room than let me stay at your home at get other work done.

I would feel like a lump on a log sitting in a pediatrician's waiting room with no child!

Honestly, OP? Are you sure it isn't because your DC wanted her nanny to hold her in the examining room or that the nanny could answer a question the doctor asked when you couldn't?

I just don't need the nanny with me inside the examining room for some appointments but I do need her to carry DS through the parking lot and up the elevator into the office as I have a bad back.

However, I may have made a mistake this time in telling her as we were about to go into the examining room that I didn't need her to come in with us. She didn't bring anything to read and the waiting room has no magazines.
why not just bring a light weight umbrella stroller so you don't have to carry your child? Problem solved. Or just tell her in advance what you expect...her to do the heavy lifting then a break for 30 min or whatever. Then she knows she can bring book or bring a snack or whatever. Just communicate in advance what you need.

If I'm the primary caregiver, most pediatricians would want me there.

I'm a nanny who's taken my nanny kids to the pediatrician with and without their parents. Not once have I been told to wait in the waiting room. I've either gone back with the child and parent, or once I sat in the car holding a new baby while an older child went in with mom. The thing about pediatrician waiting rooms is - no one wants to be there unless they have to. Who wants to sit out in what is essentially a petri dish of bacteria if they don't have to? Because you need your nanny to carry your child? Either do it yourself and give your nanny a break or have your nanny complete the entire visit with you. Come on, OP.

+1 I'm a nanny who has correctly diagnosed strep throat twice before we ever got to the doctors office. I also knew my charge had autism, even after her regular pediatrician said (after spending all of 15 minutes with her) that she was fine and would "catch up".

Yeah, I get the feeling op has an insecurity issue going on.

I get the morning off when my charge has an appointment. They ask me to come in about the time they get back home.

As a 24 hr / 7 nanny who has gone to apps without the parents because they travel internationally extensively and can be gone upwards of 2 months at a time. The pediatrician clearly doesn't want me there. Won't listen to me and kind of treats me like I'm invisible. When mb is home I am so relieved I can be in the waiting room with the other kiddos. Well visits are scheduled for all 3 the same day when she will be in town. But when they are sick I take all 3 on my own and I am treated like I'm not there.

I occasionally bring my charge to the pediatrician and MB meets us, as it is close to her office. My MB always insists that I go in with them. I'm with him over 45 hours every week and can answer a lot of questions that MB can't.
It's also helpful as a nanny to be able to ask questions about my charge's health and development.
She also thinks it's rude to make me, a very important person in the life of her child, to sit in a waiting room.

So you're doing nearly 100% of the parenting work. I'd fire this pediatrician.

I always take my child to her appointments and usually give our nanny time off and have her meet us at home after the appointment. On the rare occasion I need our nanny to meet me at an appointment, she knows she can wait in the waiting room with a book or her phone or whatever...or take a walk and get coffee and come back. There is no reason to have her in the exam room and she knows if she has observations or concerns she wishes me to share with the Dr, she tells me directly and in detail.
