Nanny cam for car : recommendations? RSS feed

I would either politely decline, or ask why they wish to make that offer, and if they have some concern about my driving.

I'm the PP who suggested it, and I agree it's weird to suddenly offer a benefit you didn't initially, but I'm trying to offer OP something that respects the nanny's privacy (only info provided to OP would be a summary yes/no on whether nanny qualified for the discount) and in some way is of benefit to the nanny, so that it doesn't just all around suck for her. Maybe she's willing to have this device in her car for a month in exchange for car insurance - heck, I was! I think it's great actually - why shouldn't I let my insurance know what a good driver I am and customize my rate to reflect that? If nanny doesn't find it worthwhile, she can decline and hopefully OP will find some less intrusive way to ease her worries.

I couldn't agree any more here.

For all these families that think they need cameras around to "spy" on their nannies (after all that is the purpose, right??!), you are ignoring a fundamental fact here.

The fact that you do not trust your nanny 100%. <----- And that in itself speaks volumes.

If you do not trust your child's caregiver a full 100%, then why in the world would you leave your child in her care? I see zero logic there.

Why, why, why are parents hiring nannies they don't trust completely? Either they're hiring mediocre nannies (read:cheap), or they're not going to trust anyone to take good care of their child and should just stay home and do it themselves.

Come on, OP, you are either a troll of just bat-shit crazy.

I don't understand why you'd approve of a camera in the house but not the car?

Cars are driven on public roads. Especially around here if something bad happens - other people are going to see it and get help. If something happens to me in the home (like I have a stroke or the apartment catches on fire), no one but my charge will see it. Plus I have always wanted my employers to see how hard I work when I am with their children.

In contrast, I don't generally do anything when I am driving except drive. My charges are buckled into their car-seats and I am buckled into the driver's seat -- what information can possibly be gained from watching me drive?

This is a pretty absurd reason/answer. Nanny cam doesn't mean you are being watched 24/7. If you pass out no one will be watching you to call 911.

Is this your car or her car?

Agree! Do these people not screen their nannies? My relationship with my nanny is based on trust and only after I've extensively interviewed her and then laid out expectations.

I would like to know this too. Are you talking about putting it in a car you provide for the nanny or are you putting it in her car. If it's well hidden I'm guessing your not informing her is it just video or video and audio? I believe audio is illegal in some places. Also I would find out if video (audio or not) is legal. Depending on where you place the camera you could get views of surrounding people and their personal business. Also if the nanny has others in the car, hers or nanny car, and they are bring recorded with no knowledge.

I would consult a lawyer

My favorite NF hired a chauffeur to do the driving.
