This is the employer issues UNDER the nanny forum. Why not post on the main page under household or jobs |
Because she had a question about having the NANNY do the work of the housekeeper so it pertains to nannies as well. Just because you don't like the question doesn't mean it's in the wrong place. |
PP here again, to be clear, I recommended that OP NOT have the nanny do the housekeeping as well so I'm not advocating for that. Just saying it was still an appropriate place for the question. |
Twice a week for two people?? That's quite frequent And the cost you quoted must be manhattan or SF. |
Your housekeeper is overcharging you. I've been a nanny for 15 years, and have worked in Dc, MD, and Va. Practically every client, had a housekeeping service. when I worked in Mclean Va, a lady who had her own housekeeping business, came once a week, for about three hours, with 2 helpers, and her rate was $175. This was for a family with two children under 3, and she also cleaned another house in the area. I would tell her that $200 is your maximum, because "the maids" ( a professional cleaning service) are actually cheaper. I believe in receiving a fare rate for my job as a nanny, but you never want to price yourself out of the market. |
She's coming in twice a week, and you're paying $200 a week currently, correct? So I don't think you're overpaying. Everyone else here is posting their once-a-week rate. So $200/2 visits a week= $100 per cleaning.
I don't think she should be charging $50 extra a week because of a new baby though, I doubt it will be any more work for her. I also wouldn't hire a nanny also in charge of housekeeping; that's just too much, and you'll probably end up disappointed that she doesn't do as good of a job cleaning. |
The housekeeper is only there for 3 hours per cleaning, by herself, so she is charging about $33 per hour. That's high. |
All my friends that are housekeepers charge $125-200 a house and it's for 3-5 hours of work..I don't know if DC housekeepers charge less than here (SF Bay Area) but housekeepers here get paid pretty decently if they do the work by themselves. Many times they'll have helpers that they pay a part of the money to, but often they'll do it alone and it'll just take longer! So I don't think anyone that's commented here is overpaying at all. But again, I'm in a different area! |
