OP, please go to a different site for this. You will get more professional, kind, people. Not DCUM slum.

Also, $400 is fine. None of these nannies have educations so they can't complain.

Let me get this straight. According to you, there's nothing but slum on DCUM (which, by the way, I think you mean scum. A slum is a poor, overly populated, uneducated neighborhood). The OP is on DCUM, so is therefore "slum." You're also on DCUM. Are you "slum" as well?

No, I mean "Slum". The uneducated nannies on this website are overly populating the forums. It's a joke.

What's keeping you here?

Okay sweetie, let me try again: you're an idiot and you have no idea what a slum is. Look it up.

I am not a nanny. In DC, $10 an hour for FT work is really low, the people I know tend to pay between $15 and $18, unless they do a nanny share. A co-worker just hired a nanny (NW DC), one child 40 hours a week, and she told me she will be paying over $3000 a month. no need to insult other posters. unless all my friends are the ones overpaying their nannies, you cannot seriously argue that $10 an hour for FT work is a market rate in DC for a nanny with reasonable experience and legal to work. OP is giving her nanny a raving review, so it is a little suspicious that she pays her so much under market. I wonder if the nanny is a legal resident and/or has permission to work. A great nanny with permission to work simply would not work FT for such a low pay for year since she would have the opportunity to find a better paying job sooner or later. maybe there is something that OP did not say (maybe the nanny works less hours, or has other perks that make the pay acceptable)

OP sure knows how to increase traffic here, doesn't she?

usually trolls are anonymous. they do not register and do it under an ID containing name and last name. if you google OP's name, you will find at least one person in DC under that name and last name with a bio that contain info compatible with OP original message.

The OP is in Gaithersburg. $400 a week is not uncommon and there are more jobs under the table than ones paying above the table. There is a larger international community in Rockville. North Potomac and even Potomac where no one pays more than $10 an hour. The norm is more $6-$8.

"No one pays more than $10 an hour" for a nanny in Potomac, MD? What an unfortunate blatant lie. I personally know many parents who pay well over $20 an hour in Potomac.

Potomac the most wealthy MD suburb of Washington where families have high expectations for their children's education and early care. Parents are usually themselves educated enough to understand the vital importance of a strong foundation to prepare for later academic success.

No Potomac has a large number of international families who are used to paying very low wages for domestic help and who don't hold government job that require their employees to be pay above the table. Our preschool was pretty diverse with families living in McMansions and townhouses. Most of the international families had nannies who were being paid very low wages.

The OP is up in Gaithersburg where there is lots of lower income housing, more domestic workers that are not legal to work, and domestic workers who don't have money for a car/expensive commute. $400 a week isn't uncommon.

It's true. Just like McLean, VA, Potomac also has some rich foreigners who keep workers in slave-like conditions. One such report was resently in the news about this in McLean. Neighbors were in shock that this is happening under their noses. Like the dead Castro criminal in Ohio, these abusers are often "friendly" people.

+1. there have been several cases (at least one involving people working for the Saudi embassy) where the "MB" was arrested or accused of bringing slaves to the US (in the case of the Saudi diplomat there was no arrest obviously, but the domestic workers were rescued). so yes, there are people who pay $8 an hour for full time work, and people who pay even less or nothing for 50 or 60 hours a week. that's a crime. it does not mean that $10 an hour for a FT nanny in the DC area is the market rate.

OP never says she is in Gaithersburg. The NANNY lives in Gaithersburg. if OP' nanny makes a little more than $1600 a month, where do you expect her to live, in a remodeled 2bd in Georgetown with view of the Potomac?
