How did you know that happened, PP in question? I read you said you had cameras, but how did you see outside?? Just curious....that is awful what happened, though, either way obviously.

I no plenty of people who have cameras inside and outside their homes.

Another reason I would never trust a stranger to take care of my baby. You never know who you're leaving your children with.

Because of this, they will put babies outside in the stroller or carseat to get the air once a day...maybe nanny thought she was doing what was best for the baby?[/quote
Not a stroller and not a car seat.
A carriage that is a mobile bed. A baby should be in the car seat only during car rides

It doesn't matter if the nanny was required to housekeeping, you think it's ok to leave a 4 month old outside screaming when it's 20 degrees outside?! What is wrong with you?

Not that it should matter at all but this nanny was paid well over market rates for the area we lived at the time and wasn't required to do ANYTHING other than child care for 1 infant. She was annoyed with me that day because we didn't use a pacifier for the baby and she didn't agree with that so instead of discussing her dissatisfaction with me or quitting because the job was clearly not the right fit for her she put the baby in his stroller in our driveway and went back in the house (with the door closed) to get a drink at go to the bathroom. The baby was outside screaming and anyone driving by could have heard him and seen he was there by himself.

I know I made mistakes in hiring her and I accept responsibility for that. It was the first nanny I'd ever hired and she had worked for good friends of ours for years and they loved her like family. She had a degree in early childhood education and I had absolutely no idea what to look for in a nanny so I took our friends recommendation. It turns out she was literally crazy. As in, needs to be on medication and possibly committed crazy but our friends had on idea because they didn't have cameras either. After we fired her our friends hired her back, not fully believing everything I said. Not long after that fired her as well and apologized to me and their words to me were "you are right, she is crazy."

The original thread is months old so I'm not sure why any of you feel the need to bring this up again, but I think it's disgusting that you would try to make fun of this situation. I don't know in what world you think it's ever ok to do that to an innocent baby. It was freezing outside and he could have been kidnapped out there by himself. He did nothing to the nanny and if she didn't like the job then she was free to leave but under NO circumstances is what she did ok. My only regret is that I didn't call the police for what she did.

This is a spin off thread and was, presumably, started to invite discussion. Aside from the one snarky commenter, could you point out the post that legitimately made fun of or excused the situation? I think your anger is pretty misdirected here.

It looks like the OP of this thread has never returned here.

I'm the OP of the previous thread that this references. I don't think my anger was displaced at all in regards to these 2 commenters:

"Maybe the nanny didn't want the baby to choke on the cleaning chemicals while she had to do the housekeeping."

"Another reason to question your priorities when you require a "nanny" to get your house clean.
"

Both comments were completely unnecessary and I do think it's disgusting to try to blame the parents when a nanny abuses an innocent child. As I stated previously, the nanny was not required to do any housekeeping but really that shouldn't matter. Even if I was the worst MB ever is it ever ok to take that out on a child? And to address some of the other comments (although I think some of the PP already have, thank you) the point is not that it was cold outside, the point was that she left the baby BY HIMSELF outside...for 10 minutes (although even 1 minute really isn't acceptable). The cold only added insult to an already big injury.

And the reason I know this is because our kitchen camera happens to point towards the door so I could see her take him outside then come back inside by herself and close the door for 10 minutes. I also know because one of my neighbors heard the baby screaming but the nanny came back outside before she could get across the street to investigate.
