It has nothing to do with being able to take a key home. If parent's don't trust that I can keep track of a key at all times, why do they trust me with their children? Additionally, yes parents are there in the morning, sometimes they are eating breakfast, sometimes getting kids dressed, etc....it just makes it easier on everyone if I can let myself in in the morning and throughout the day. Seriously, just give your nanny a key! |
Op here.. Parents not there when I arrive its after school.. Just me and kids.. Garage is hiding place but can't get to house from garage |
The nanny should not compromise on this. |
Meh, I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Just get the hidden key when you come in and leave it in the garage when you leave. |
Hey Meh- you're a moron!! |
I've been at my job for 7 months, and they just gave me the garage code. I don't have a key. If I take the kids out for a walk (not allowed to drive them) I use the *house set* inside the kitchen drawer. I'm always afraid I will forgot to put the house set of keys back after our walk. I think it's weird. Just give the keys, already. They also keep their bedroom door locked at all times. It's in my work agreement that I am not allowed to go inside the master bedroom or bath. |
Hmmm... so if its in your work agreement that you are not allowed to go inside the master bedroom or bath, how do you know that it is locked? Unless there is a padlock you would have needed to try to open the door which you weren't supposed to do. |
Maybe the parents told her it was locked. Maybe the children tried to open the door. Why do you have to turn an innocent statement into a malicious, suspicious act? |
I would hate that, pp! |
Lol lol +100 |
My most recent mb gave me one the day after I started working for her. She mentioned that she was sorry I didn't have one my first day, but she hadnt had time to make one yet.
Even now that the kids are in preschool, and I got a job outside of the field, I still have their key. The family before that one was pretty awful about remembering things and I never got one. |
I see them lock and unlock it from time to time. The children have tried to go in from time to time.... sheesh get a grip! |
It's all just weird. |
+1 I've always been given a key on my first or second day. No one has ever told me an area of the house is off-limits, either, although obviously I don't go into the master bedroom or offices unless I have to (baby's pacifier was left in there, took out some of their clothes from the dryer, etc.)... these are all weird people you're working for. |
You also never know when you might need to get in to the house really quickly and retrieving the key can cause a delay. I think that having a backup key is a good idea for if you lose yours while out, but I would be weirded out by someone that WOULDN'T give me a key but would leave one in a spot that any random stranger could find it (if looking around or like PP stated, watched you get it daily). |
