What do your charges call you?

My first name, I would not be comfortable being called Miss anything by my charges. As a preschool teach, sure, but not as a nanny. I am very close with my charges (and MB & DB) and more like a member of the family. It would be weird to be that formal. It has defintiely never hurt the level of respect I get as a nanny. I am still a very professional nanny, however there is an emotional bond with this job! Just go a with the territory!

Believe me, you'll notice the difference. Parents should promote that to.

I completely disagree with this on so many levels. I do not want to just "have my work respected". I am very well respected by my charges and their parents. The children also really care about me as another adult family roll model in their lives. There is a very emotional bond between children and their nanny. It would be WAY to formal to be called Miss...

I've always been called my first name or a variation of it. If a family wanted to use Miss before my name, I wouldn't fight it, it is teaching children respect. Or by calling someone madam or ma'am. Too many people have no respect for others and are not taught how to properly respect their elders, so I wouldn't fight it.

My last family, it was a pet name which started as the baby's attempt at saying my name. By the end of my time there, the kids were pretty much using my first name but the parents still used the pet name, haha. Very cute and I think it showed how much they cared about me-- they went above and beyond in many respects.

Now I care for an infant, so we'll see I guess. I kind of hope the pet name thing happens again

I'm the "ba-ba-ba" poster but I HOPE when he starts using names that mine, which is three syllables, gets mangled into an adorable nickname. I'd be happy to use a baby-given nickname forever.

Barring that, I'd expect him to use my first name. Now until always.

Like PP, I don't mind if a family insists on "Miss First Name" but I'm just as (perhaps more) comfortable without the formality.

An awesome baby nickname would definitely be great too My last charges, twins, had a great nickname for me before they could pronounce my name that defiantly stuck!
