Do I tell MB/DB? RSS feed

Send a video! Do tell.

My MB flat out told me not to tell her when DC did anything major for the first time.

So I don't/didn't. This is the first family I've had like this.

Prior families they wanted videos and pictures of anything major on my watch.

It is wrong to LIE.

You would never know the nanny didn't tell you. So...

That's why I like the suggestion of saying it will probably happen soon. That way the parents can either just hear that and "see it for the first time" themselves, or if they want to know and would rather have the nanny say that yes, it has already happened, they can then ask "Has she already walked, or is she really just showing all the signs of it happening soon?". If I left it vague but the parents asked specifically about it further, I would assume they just really wanted to know and wouldn't be hurt by it, and I would then tell them so.

MB here. I would want the nanny to tell me and not feel like she has to keep that kind of thing from me. I'd hope she'd be excited and me too! I'm not going to cry about missing it. That's part of life.

I'm an MB and I think it's our job to let our nanny know if we want to be told or not.

I'm sure everyone is different and this puts the nanny in a tough spot.

I don't think MBs have any right being "furious" about this unless they have clearly expressed their preferences BEFORE the first steps, words, etc...

I also think a lot of these firsts are likely to happen during the day when I'm not around, which is part of the price I pay for working outside the home. Not something I love, but something I need to be realistic about. There's no need to take that out on a nanny.

It was so exciting, but it breaks my heart to think that I was there to see it instead of them.
I know that it would hurt MB.
Should I tell them or just say that I think DC is about to walk?
I don't want to withhold information but I also want MB to experience that excitement.

Advice?
Din't say anything. As far as you know, the little one, 'could be close' to walking but don't you dare take credit for your own satisfaction. At the end of the day, the wise thing and humble thing to do, is to let MB think, the little one walked for thirst time while she witnessed it. Trust me.

STFU. You've NEVER lied, sanctimonious one? I have no problem lying if it will save my ass from bring thrown under the bus, if I didn't do it.

Who said anything about taking credit for my own satisfaction?
You made that one up on your own.

I have no idea what this is about^^^

I would be super careful about making comments around safety - if a baby has started rolling parents need to know so that they no longer leave him/ her on surfaces he/she can roll off of!!!
