What things do MB and DB do to annoy you? RSS feed

Some things my nanny does that annoys me include, but at not limited to,

Finishing off all the food. Of course I don't mind if it's once and a while because someone needs to eat it but my nanny will gobble up the rest of the cookies in one sitting. I'll go shopping Saturday and the sweets will go untouched until Monday and when I return home from work I'll notice multiple packages open / empty. This women can EAT.

Having the trash overflow. Now, I don't expect her to take out my trash but I always make sure it's not full when she arrives for the day. I guess it would be nice if she could put in a new trash bag instead of letting the full one get higher and overflow so when I go to take it out, everything spills over and I can't tie it.

When she's having a lazy day she tends to take it out on my two children. Telling them 'no' when they ask to go outside on a bright, sunny day just because she doesn't feel like it. Telling them 'no' to a certain (healthy) meal because cooking chicken fingers is much easier/faster. You get it.

Absolutely ZERO flexibility. I rarely ask her to stay late or come in when she isn't scheduled to work but if I do happen to need her for an extra hour she will make up a phony excuse, and I no her well enough to no that her excuse is indeed PHONY.

Title: MB & DB

I get what your are saying though, a lot of employers & employees are annoying. But that was not the question asked.

OP, do you really think your employers do these things to annoy you?

OP~

These are not minor annoyances. This family views you like people viewed slaves back in the day.
Because of your skin color and because of your position, they only see you as the "help."
They sound just despicable to me. Do not undermine your self respect by continuing to work for these elite snobs. You deserve better.

NO one is better than anyone else due to skin color or social class. If you continue on with these folks, your dignity will be lost in the end.

Ca$h that last paycheck Baby and move on from these racist and ignorant people.

There is dignity in ALL work. ALL.
Never forget that.

seems like OP meant "What things do MB and DB do that annoy you?" -- things they do, sometimes without thinking about how it affects others.

I honestly do think what your saying is very true. I'm currently job hunting and saving up as we speak

Every.Fucking.Monday it's the same thing. The house (all 5000 sq feet of it) is absolutely trashed. Every toy, puzzle, book and game are strewed through out every room. Every bottle for ydc used from Fri PM to Mon AM is left in the nursery bathroom. Plus the ydc is so off schedule (that his mother asked him to be trained to). Mondays are hell. I love my job and these kids, but I'd rather work 7 days a week then pull what is basically a triple on Mondays. It just frustrates me beyond belief. And talking to the parents is like a brick wall.

Nanny here. For all of the nannies who dislike their employers and the employers who dislike their nannys- FIND A NEW ONE!
At my job, it is give and take. Sometimes I'll put in a load of MBs and DBs towels because I notice the hamper is full and sometimes, when MB knows we are going to do X activity that day, I will come in to the diaper bag already packed with what we need for the day including packed snacks and lunch. In our profession, it is necessary to have a good relationship with your boss/employee so that it is enjoyable and we don't have to come onto dcum and complain. Instead. Use that time to find a new job or nanny(parents who think that nannies should do everything for them just don't get a nanny, hire a maid as well)

PP here. I like my job. I like the kids and even their parents. What I do NOT like is the Monday morning Sanford and Sons. Venting on here let's me get out my frustration and move on with the day.

Current family is pretty good, but last family paid well and only one easy baby so I always did tons of housework especially on Mondays! I clean fast, but now looking back I did too much and then they expected it, another lesson learned. Pet peeve was MB never wiped table or high chair after meals, so gross by Monday! New MB keeps things clean when I'm not there, plus they have a cleaning lady, yeah! If you can do second interview at the house and a trial week then you can see if they are slobs and expect a nanny/housekeeper or a nanny. They may be racist, or they may treat any nanny the same and are just inconsiderate slobs. Either way you should move on when you find something better!

+1. Your employers are racist and undignified. MB here. I would never disrespect my DS's nanny with that sort of attitude and conduct. How awful. These abusive employers are especially stupid because their children in the care of people who may get pissed off one day. Leave as fast as you can. There are employers who genuinely value and respect their children's caregivers. Hope you find on! And soon!!!!

I have always hired a weekly housekeeper in addition to the nanny.

I honestly think that it is difficult to ask a college student/graduate or graduate student to undertake any sort of housework -- cleaning, laundry, dishes -- because in most cases they will consider this sort of work beneath them.

Many immigrants consider parenthood/nannying and household work to be hand-in-hand sisters, because in reality they are. Please ask any stay-at-home parent whether s/he just watches and drives the kids, or whether s/he also cooks, cleans, does the dishes and laundry.

I think that it is very important when hiring the nanny to ask them specifically which duties they consider a part of their job. I always make sure to hire a weekly maid service -- in addition to the nanny -- so that the nanny does not feel burdened by heavy-duty housekeeping.

They try really hard to make it seem like they're not racist but they are...I hate when one of them come home early and they still want me to stay its very awkward like they just want me to follow them around. Today it was raining and MB asked me are you ok to get your hair wet.
