Not the troll. Shocked at the nastiness. We r alone in the area with no family here and have jobs that we absolutely cannot call in sick for. Just hired someone but she can't start until later this week.

Wow shocked at the nastiness. Not the troll. We have no family in the area and both have jobs that we absolutely cannot call in sick for. Just hired someone but can't start until next week.

OP, I feel for you, don't pay attention to the negative comments. We went through something similar over the past summer. We were lucky that we could take some time off work and also find good emergency childcare until we got a wonderful new nanny in place. I also took time off work to search for and interview nannies, it was worth it in the end.

However, just because she's living there for two weeks doesn't mean she has to continue watching your child for those two weeks. In fact I'd even argue that since you fired her for cause because of negligence, that you don't even have to give her two weeks pay (and I'm a nanny). Do you have any friends with nannies that might be able to do a temporary share while you find a new nanny? Any SAHM friends? I would be really hesitant to leave a child with someone who has already proven to be slightly neglectful after they've been fired.

This. In many areas live in nannies do actually have rights to a fair process as "tenants" and I think we can all agree that immediate expulsion is unfair and would be a lawsuit waiting to happen if your landlord did it to you. This is one of the risks of having someone live in.

But I agree with this poster- that does NOT mean you have to continue to use her services or pay her!!! She is being fired for GOOD reason and should be instantly replaced by a temp.

Hope you have better luck next time.

If you leave your kids with someone you know is a danger to them, and something happens, you may lose your kids. Just so you know.

Yikes! There is absolutely no reason to get so nasty when people are just trying to get advice.

As a nanny, I wouldn't leave my charges alone unless they were secure (in the crib or playpen), and then only for a minute to use the bathroom. I don't believe that tenant rules apply to live-in nannies that are being fired for cause.

you can't throw her out. she didn't beat your kids. she's clueless. legally she has a right to be there since you invited her

This is absurd. All of you had your children every waking hour!

She's a nanny, not a vampire--being "invited" has no bearing

lol.

ok, but to be fair she is also a tenant, and tenants have rights when it comes to evictions, even in cases where they've broken the law - much more serious than this case, where I suppose all she is guilty of is showing poor judgment. you can't just throw someone out, you must give them notice. and often several months of it.
