We aren’t in DC but pay $27 an hour plus full medical and a leased car that she is free to use on weekends and off hours.

This.

Common sense and so true.

27.00 an hour. That is incredible, if you are foolish enough to spend that type of money then more power to you. We spend 3x less, but I would argue our son will fly circles around yours. Not because of any genetic gift, but because have empowered our 15.00 nanny with a solid curriculum that she follows.

This is actually funny. Keep trying to justify being cheap and paying low. I’m sure your child is amazing and will do amazing things bc you pay your nanny $15/hr.

Here is what I don't understand. Minimum wage is 12.00 an hour, and most employees performing retail in the DC area pay that much. A Nanny came make 15.00 an hour, and enjoy the fact that a lot of her time will be spent monitoring a child, in the comfort of her seat.

No one here is on your team so please don't try to create an illusion of solidarity where none exists. Regardless of how much you pay your nanny, your contemptuous attitude to the person responsible for the wellbeing and happiness of your child while you work is baffling.

Go to any fast food place, look at people who work there, and see if you want them watching your child, if you want your child to talk like they do. I don't get how you simultaneously claim your children are precious yet the person who takes care of them is like dirt.

Team,

You can get a Foreign GRAD student for 15.00 per hour. In fact, current prices for Grad Students at the university is around 13.00 per hour.

Am I saying that fast food workers are the type of people I want to hire? Of course not, but I am claiming the difficulty of their work is far beyond one of a nanny.

You are again making the arguing that the MORE you pay the better service you get. If you hire me for 150.00 an hour, I can take care of your kids for you as well. Honestly, using the logic of these over-priced nannies you get what you pay for. I must be at least 5x better than your highest paid nanny here.

Get real, learn logic.

Actually I’m mocking you for trying to justify paying $15/hr and thinking that bc you do your child will be better than another child. It’s funny that the only ppl upset are the ones paying the low wage. What is it that you want, for everyone to be as cheap as you? Do you want a pat on the back for paying $15/hr? If you’re happy with your $15/hr nanny then that’s great. It’s not a position I would take but that’s also bc I know the type of family that pays $15/hr. And you are not being represented well here.

You know what? I agree with you. It's clearly much, much more difficult to put burgers inside buns than take care of a living, breathing child. I mean it's not like children are valuable or anything.

Hey TEAM I got an idea. You can probably bribe a prison warden and he'll let you use some female inmates for free. I mean you clearly don't think being a nanny is all that, so why not? Or a dogwalker maybe. Dogwalkers will do, won't they.

Also, hiring foreign students is illegal as they aren't allowed to work off campus.

Go away, Troll. No one with a triple digit IQ is on your “team”.

1. You play with a child and feed him food. That isn't exactly difficult here, so please don't make it seem like the child is constantly at the verge of death and you are 'bringing' him back to life. You are so dramatic.

2. The activities most Nannies perform are what babysitters perform. Be honest, you run around and play with kids. You feed them when they are hungry. You sing my little-tea pot. Your entire field is unaccredited, and while you may seek third party accreditations for specific skills many of the certificates are not globally accepted and are given simply for signing up and attending a session.

3. As long as a grad student is legal, you can easily hire one. Current campus work at George Washington pays around 13.00 an hour?! Here is a clue for the uninformed... most art, history, and psychology grad students are DESPERATE for a job. If you pay them more then 13.00 an hour, they will love you and stay as long as they can. Don't take my word for it, know your market, and don't listen to these nannies that are just scared their job can be outsourced.

To the person who said, they spend a 1/3 less than the person spending $27 per hour. You must not be too intelligent yourself, because a 1/3 less is $9 per hour, not the $15 you say you are paying.

You said foreign grad students, i.e. those on a student visa. These aren't legal for off campus work. I also wonder what are these mysterious grad students that are magically available for you during full working hours. Don't they have to study or something?

Take it from me, a longtime nanny employer who's seen it all and knows the difference between a proper nanny and someone who might as well work at McD. No nanny is scared of losing her job on account of employers like you.

1. Most students take classes online now a days. The times have changed since you were in college. There are enough grad students to work around your full-time job honestly.

2. You are not an employer. You are just another nanny afraid of getting your job outsourced.

It all depends on what and who you want caring for your child. Educated and experienced nannies are expensive, there is no question. My preference was a nanny with teaching experience and a college degree. We pay a high rate for her.

If we weren’t able to afford a nanny of this caliber, we would have gone with a good daycare.

Same here.

OP, if you are still reading, don’t discount a really good daycare if a good nanny isn’t in the budget.

1. A full time grad student doesn’t have time to work a full time nanny job. They are in internships anyway. Let it go.

2. You are not an employer. You are a troll who is trying desperately to disparage nannies and families that pay well for your own enjoyment.
