Team, Here is what I don't understand. Minimum wage is 12.00 an hour, and most employees performing retail in the DC area pay that much. A Nanny came make 15.00 an hour, and enjoy the fact that a lot of her time will be spent monitoring a child, in the comfort of her seat.
No one here is on your team so please don't try to create an illusion of solidarity where none exists. Regardless of how much you pay your nanny, your contemptuous attitude to the person responsible for the wellbeing and happiness of your child while you work is baffling. Go to any fast food place, look at people who work there, and see if you want them watching your child, if you want your child to talk like they do. I don't get how you simultaneously claim your children are precious yet the person who takes care of them is like dirt.
Team, You can get a Foreign GRAD student for 15.00 per hour. In fact, current prices for Grad Students at the university is around 13.00 per hour. Am I saying that fast food workers are the type of people I want to hire? Of course not, but I am claiming the difficulty of their work is far beyond one of a nanny.
You know what? I agree with you. It's clearly much, much more difficult to put burgers inside buns than take care of a living, breathing child. I mean it's not like children are valuable or anything. Hey TEAM I got an idea. You can probably bribe a prison warden and he'll let you use some female inmates for free. I mean you clearly don't think being a nanny is all that, so why not? Or a dogwalker maybe. Dogwalkers will do, won't they. Also, hiring foreign students is illegal as they aren't allowed to work off campus.
1. You play with a child and feed him food. That isn't exactly difficult here, so please don't make it seem like the child is constantly at the verge of death and you are 'bringing' him back to life. You are so dramatic. 2. The activities most Nannies perform are what babysitters perform. Be honest, you run around and play with kids. You feed them when they are hungry. You sing my little-tea pot. Your entire field is unaccredited, and while you may seek third party accreditations for specific skills many of the certificates are not globally accepted and are given simply for signing up and attending a session. 3. As long as a grad student is legal, you can easily hire one. Current campus work at George Washington pays around 13.00 an hour?! Here is a clue for the uninformed... most art, history, and psychology grad students are DESPERATE for a job. If you pay them more then 13.00 an hour, they will love you and stay as long as they can. Don't take my word for it, know your market, and don't listen to these nannies that are just scared their job can be outsourced.
