Is 20815 the only zip code for Chevy Chase? |
Agreed. |
Yes for Chevy Chase, MD. Chevy Chase DC is 20015. |
Don't forget Rock Creek Forest! It is also known as cheap Chevy Chase. We have the 20815 ZIP Code, but the housing costs are a lot lower than the rest of Chevy Chase. |
Yes, which proves that Chevy Chase MD is really only a zip code as it spans a really wide distance - Kenwood to the West (basically Bethesda) all the way to Rock Creek Forest in the East (basically Silver Spring). |
this thread is making me really glad we bought a house in the BCC cluster. Good school without as many snobs. |

Here are some observations from someone who's lived in both Chevy Chase and West Bethesda (Glen Echo):
Both are great areas, and "which is better" would be dependent on what one is looking for in a home and a neighborhood -- and generally very subjective. Here are some quick thoughts. Chevy Chase, MD (DC would be different): I really like the feel of this neighborhood because of the architecture (mostly original old homes) and the sidewalks. There are also 4th of July parades and other community gatherings. Chevy Chase feels more urban because the lots are generally closer together and seems to have more traffic. Many people enjoy using Rock Creek a lot. There is also the Chevy Chase Recreation Association, which is a nice pool and tennis (although lots of neighbors belonged to country clubs). Glen Echo Loved the trees (and our house had an amazing yard) and the bigger lots. Generally I didn't find it as "pretty" because no sidewalks and building restrictions seem less rigid. Having said that, there are many BEAUTIFUL new and old houses. Glen Echo felt airier to me, and also more suburban (although very convenient to downtown in actuality). Loved the Capital Crescent Trail. So I think both are nice places to live. I would lean heavily to whichever neighborhood seems closer to one's work, schools, clubs, activities, etc. |
Who in the history of earth named YOU the royal leader of "school listings?"
|
+1 I'm still sort of ashamed of living in CC - keep explaining to people "but it's the cheaper part!"... but whatever, we like our neighborhood and home! |
List looks about right to these eyes although I would put WJ in front of Blair and RM down in the third grouping. Poolesville only ranks highly because they chose a spot with very few local kids and the ones there tend to be middle class and white. I am not so sure it deserves to be better than blair which also has a strong program but many more local kids pulling down it's averages. |
It's averages?? Oh, sweetie. Don't talk about education, OK? |
Me too. Wonder if people still say stuff like this out loud? Sounds like a throwback to the 60's. |
UPDATE for the year 2017 That list is not entirely true because if you have a smart kid from any Montgomery County Middle that will qualify to either Bair Math and Science Magnet or Richard Montgomery International Bachelorette programme then your kids just is so much better off going to those two then ANY other high so that list would look like that: 1. Blair and Richard Montgomery ex aequo first position and then your list follows 2)Whitman 3)Churchill 4) Richard Montgomery (went up in ranking a plenty lately) 5)BCC 6)Poolesville 7)Blair 8)Walter Johnson |
To answer OP's question--you see a lot more inquiries about Bethesda on a real estate forum simply because Bethesda has a lot more housing stock, as well as variety, compared to Chevy Chase (whether DC or MD). If you look at a map, Bethesda is HUGE compared to Chevy Chase. |
