Why Bethesda always, not Chevy Chase?

Because the postal address IS Chevy Chase!

We looked in close-in Bethesda for months and ended up buying in the Town of Chevy Chase. We love it here - we're walking distance to downtown Bethesda and Bethesda metro. Many kids go to public school. Our kids are in private, but play with neighborhood kids almost every day.

I know I'm always stunned when kenwood is referred to as Chevy chase. I figured it had a Bethesda address! Kenwood is beautiful and it's own thing

But B-CC is the only option if you want "walkable" and at least it offers a bit more diversity.

PP nailed with with because Bethesda is bigger and has a much larger population. I personally prefer Chevy Chase (we didn't even look at Bethesda) but if we were doing public schools, I probably would have leaned toward something feeding into Whitman vs BCC.

Nonsense. We are in the town of cc and the large majority of us use public schools and are generally very happy with them, though we could all afford private. Bcc and its feeders are excellent. It has slightly more diversity than the ones to the northwest, so average scores are slightly lower, but the good kids do just as well there as in the W schools.

They include Town of Chevy Chase, Chevy Chase Village, Somerset, Chevy Chase Section 3, Chevy Chase Section 5, Martin's Addition. I think Bethesda is more sprawling and also that there are more areas with homes at a slightly more reasonable price for first time home buyers who are moving for the schools, etc. I think most people who are looking in Chevy Chase already know what they are looking for and may not have as many questions? But if you are new and looking in the area, and the price point is right, there are many similarities.

This was us. We needed to be able to walk to metro, so close-in Bethesda and parts of CC would work. But we couldn't afford anything in CC MD, and didn't want to buy in CC DC because we wanted Montgomery County schools. Probably couldn't have afforded CC DC anyway. We bought in East Bethesda and as it was we could barely afford that.

We live in Martin's Additions and we specifically chose this area over others that feed into Whitman. Just wanted our kids to have a slightly more urban, more diverse school system.

Exactly! PP is hysterically ignorant.

Whitman and Walter Johnson are way better than B-CC

What is your evidence for that?

People gear toward looking in Bethesda over Chevy Chase because Bethesda is much larger than Chevy Chase and therefore has a much larger and more diverse housing stock. Period.

who in the history of earth has ever accused Walter Johnson of being better than BCC? Most people don't even really consider WJ part of the W's let alone in the same class

the list to be as follows:

1)Whitman

2)Churchill
3)BCC
4)Poolesville
5)Richard Montgomery

6)Blair (only because of the magnet)
7)Walter Johnson

And lots of families send their kids to public. We used to live in CC and everyone around us sent their kids to public.

We are in Section 5 -- not quite as far east at Martin's addition. Otherwise, I echo everything this poster is saying. Public schools are doing well by my kids and I like that not all kids are the same. And we are so happy with this location. Close enough to either walk or take the bus to the metro, easy access to bethesda and schools, but not a ton of traffic.
