The racism on this thread is just appalling. |
very appalling |
Indians are the most racist group in America. Try to interact with other Indian parents, they will never socialize with African Americans or Hispanics. Never |
Some of them are okay, but I feel you. I’m black and my kid is in AAP at a mostly Indian school so I know many Indians are like you say. But the most racist parents commenting under this topic seem to be the East Asians which are Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. They have been spewing this unnecessary vitriol towards blacks and hispanics |
Of course Indians are racists towards African Americans. They treat each other (in different socioeconomic classes) like trash. The history and even current practice of Indian vs. Indian discrimination is very well documented. It's not often talked about in the open but if you have an Indian friend, they'll tell you all about it. It's horrific. I literally had my mouth wide open when I was listening to how they treated each other...it was like it was expected behavior. |
Such a stupid response. Gaming the test is all the tiger mom/dads excel at and teach their kids ! Glad the admission process is being changed. The amount of prepping that starts from Grade 1, the lobbying with teachers, the child being in every possible activity and class (music, art, dance, soccer, chess, school clubs) - its crazy ! lets kids be tiger parents. You being able to spend 1000s of dollars to prep your child and make him "excel" in every way does not make your child the brightest. Some of the AAP parent questionnaires are hilarious - one would think the child is gods gift to mankind and a miracle - excellent in every thing on earth ! |
Other than a full scale lottery, removing the test will not change the tiger behavior you described. In fact I would argue it will work in their favor for precisely the reason you described; i.e they will be gaming the subjective questionnaires (essays) replacements, which are clearly more gameable and BSable than a test. |
Don’t Burn Your House to Smoke out a Rat !!. Find out better solution without compromising TJ Quality. |
the amount of stress these tiger moms put on people around is unbelievable. If you do not do what they do, your kid does not stand a chance at all. Asra Nomani and her clan of supporters are a perfect example of this group of parents - their whole world would cease to exist if their child did not get into TJ after the thousands of dollars they have spent on prepping them, and having them in a 100 activities to show how "gifted and ahead" their kids are ! |
This isnt true. Some kids are naturally gifted and can compete with "tiger moms'" kids including getting into TJ without prepping. |
It's starting to sound a lot like the old trope of trying to make people ashamed of being smart. My parents weren't exactly what I'd call wealthy, but they prioritized their spending by buying textbooks for me to practice from. The people complaining about tiger moms are being terrible |
Exactly. It's not like TJ has some huge list of suicides and mental health issues compared to other schools. What is it about people who are so jealous of others even when they don't even want the same thing for themselves? Read the Washington Post article today on the 83% jump in kids failing in FCPS. That is a bigger issue than families helping their children learn chess. Fake problems. |
As for I have seen some kids don't need prep. Prep doesn't guarantee admission to TJ, it is only to be ready, doesnt make anyone gifted. Even if anyone makes it, the grades they get will be rude shock. |
Asian here, recently went to a college baseball prospect camp, didn't see any minority or diversity other than us. These camps aren't cheap, perfect game charges $700, head first and showball are $995. How is this different from spending for TJ prep? Does anyone know how much a parent spends for travel and private coaching so their can make it to the varsity team (any sport) |
The difference in most cases are the kids enjoy some activities and don’t enjoy others. |
