Oops, I meant to write "21:37 here" |
Add to the fact that not everyone's company is closing due to weather. So, if you have to work but kids' schools or daycares are closed, then suddenly you're burning vacation like crazy or scrambling for alternative child care.
Shoveling forever and ever. (only to have someone else take your space. LOL) Hating the feeling of being the Stay-Puffed Marshmallow Man with ten layers of clothing on. Frankly, just not liking cold weather, even when there isn't snow. Give me July's heat and humidity any day! |
I think OP must live in a condo with an indoor garage. I don't see how anyone having to shovel this can be 100% happy about the snow. Also ditto others mentioning that although school is closed, many offices are still planning to be open Monday, meaning you HAVE to dig your car out, figure out what to do with the kids while you go to work, or burn through yet more unplanned vacation days. |
PP here. Are the non-fans of snow people who did not grow up with snow? |
Op here. I live in a single family him in NW DC. My husband and I shoveled everything, while my son played on the mounds.
No condo, no garage. And while I realize that losing heat is awful, that is not what I was referring to. it just seems that people sometimes complain before embracing new situations. |
OP - do you have more than one child at home...that don't like snow/cold/wearing gloves? Do you not have any place to go come Monday morning? A little thing called Cabin Fever? |
21:44 here. Grew up with snow in the midwest. Went to college in the snowbelt. Hated it then. Still hate it now. It's beautiful if I'm sitting inside watching it and have nowhere else to be. But, I really just don't like dealing with cold weather, snow, ice and all of it. |
why don't you embrace a new situation of losing heat with two sick children and having to return to work with no daycare or a husband in town to help you shovel. then get back to us and let us know how the novelty was for you. |
My only complaint is that I had to cancel my DD's b'day party two weekends in a row. I'm thinking of moving her birthday to April. |
No, no, no. If you are going to start a fight, you need to say something like "Why did you have babies if you can't stand to be around them?" Or, "so it's OK to have children as long as they take up only a few hours of your day" and then throw in some random thing like CIO, nanny slave, and co-sleeping. |
If I didn't have some serious workd deadlines to meet and my company wasn't so adamant about us making it in (especially during this time of re-organizations and layoffs), I would be loving every second of it. I even enjoyed shoveling our huge driveway! But in the back of mind I keep thinking I should be at homw working and trying to save my job. |
I am a Nanny and also do other babysitting and can't stand the snow for a financial reason. I lost so many jobs it is not even funny and they are calling for at least 5 more inches on Wednesday, so so sad. |
So my guess is that you didn't do the majority of shoveling? Or your house doesn't need shoveling I spent HOURS shoveling.
And my guess is that you didn't fear losing power. We have outdoor power lines and fallen trees. Sure snow can be fun, and prior to having a kid, even a power outage wouldn't have worried me. And I always wonder about posts like this. Do you not spend time with your family normally? I spend tons of time with my son. Lots and lots and lots of time. Enough time that I also need time away ![]() |
You should look for the right employers... I work for Health Care and Emergency personnel. They have no "snow days" so we have plenty of work to do while everybody is home... |
bunch of sad crabby people here....Geezzz...I am right with you OP..... |
