You do realize we are staring down the abyss of deflation right now? 30% unemployment in one month and nearly the entire collapse of private demand. The government has to essentially fill void in private sector demand otherwise nearly all small businesses in the US will be bankrupt within 2 months.

The point is to stimulate the hell out of the economy. And also to get kids investing in 529 accounts to boost the market.

If we do nothing there will be NO JOBS for people to go back to once this is over. Stimulus money will also be given to individuals, but that doesn't mean unlimited amounts of spending should happen.
