The stimulus phases out at $115K per person / $230K for married couples.
The legislation says: "The amount of a payment under subparagraph (A) shall be reduced (but not below zero) by 5 percent of so much of the individual’s adjusted gross income as exceeds $75,000. The Secretary of the Treasury shall adjust such amount as appropriate to account for individuals filing joint returns." So if someone makes $110K/year: $110K - 75K = $35K $35K * 5% = $1,750 $2000 - $1750 = $250 They would get a monthly stimulus for $250, delivered either to their digital wallet or in a paper check. |
My family doesn’t qualify, but what’s the interest in giving kids a 1,000$ payout? |
You do realize we are staring down the abyss of deflation right now? 30% unemployment in one month and nearly the entire collapse of private demand. The government has to essentially fill void in private sector demand otherwise nearly all small businesses in the US will be bankrupt within 2 months. The point is to stimulate the hell out of the economy. And also to get kids investing in 529 accounts to boost the market. |
So you are all for letting Mnuchin hand out $500 billion secretly to companies, but not helping the average wage earner? |
Love how there are no problems with deficit spending when it is corporate tax cuts that they don’t even need, but god forbid there is any spending to help out the average person. |
Sorry - did I miss the part where the government has secretly been controlled by a shadow Democrat president and Congress for the last three-odd (very odd) years? I could have sworn your One True Lord Donald J Trump was the one taking all the credit when things were good with the stock market up until a few weeks ago. Did he suddenly realize that no, he was never president - it was someone else all along? What happened? It's so weird, too, how I remember Obama bringing us back from the last collapse during - wait, whose tenure was it was it? Democrat George W Bush? |
STFU, corporate socialist. |
DP. Sooner than that. Unless there's something more that's specifically about small businesses? |
Washington and Oregon have conducted elections exclusively via mail for years and years. |
You dimocrats fail to understand that it is part of a multipronged approach. You're absolutely damn right business needs to be bailed out. If we do nothing there will be NO JOBS for people to go back to once this is over. Stimulus money will also be given to individuals, but that doesn't mean unlimited amounts of spending should happen. People will have to sacrifice. We cannot let the country become insolvent because no one wanted to give up their cushy lifestyles temporarily. Have you seen how bad Greece got? That's the path we are headed on. Stop trying to attach economic relief to insane AOC Green New Deal initiatives and diversities of corporate board, which have nothing to do with fighting a pandemic. Democrats are going to absolutely pounded at the polls once the public learns they're suffering more than they need to because Democrats are trying to jam through insane Social Justice initiatives attached to the bill. The voters will take it out on Democrats for starting The Great Depression 2. |
Yes it does. We learned from TARP what parts worked and what didn't. Why make the same mistakes again? |
You sound desperate. |
But McConnell did a generous thing on Friday and put a check in my pocket and saved my business? Maybe he did in Opposite Land. |
2000/mo for people making under 75k is not full regular paycheck. The fact is, a huge number of people are immediately out of work. we can either provide a stipend so they can get food and medicine or, we can have them rioting in the streets and looting and stealing out of desperation. I guess you prefer the latter? |
