Drive or fly to Toronto

Anonymous
I drove with my two kids last summer. My husband was already there on business. Drive was easy and very pretty - only hit traffic when we got close to Toronto itself. On the way back we stopped in Corning, NY for the night which was a very cute town. Bit my kids (12 and 10) have done several
Long drives and are good in the car.

This. Buffalo is unofficially Toronto South airport.

I would too. I have driven up through PA and NY, though not all the way to Toronto. I think it would be a great drive.

I thought this form is to help each other from your experience. Distance is doable by car but not sure about the route. Like how are the highwas, rest areas. If you have nothing good to say do not respond.

A five second Google search will show you three routes. If you can read a map (not strictly necessary with Google maps) you can tell that one of them is interstate all the way.

Seriously, just figure it out. Do you want to drive or fly?

Not OP, but, seriously STFU. This person wants insight. Since you have none to offer don't post.

Don't be a passive aggressive loser.

You can either stay in that area (Air Canada Centre, Rogers Centre, CN Tower, aquarium are all right there) or catch the subway there. Porter often has deals.

I would only drive if you will want a car while there (if travelling out of the city).

As someone who's flown Porter into Billy Bishop, I'd say drive. Porter is not equipped to operationally handle weather disruptions. I flew last summer, and afternoon storms completely derailed their operations. My Sunday afternoon flight was delayed until midnight, when they decided to cancel it altogether. The next flight they could accommodate me on was Wednesay! I ended up having to stay another night in Toronto, and just decided to book through another carrier out of Pearson. It took about 4mo for Porter to reimburse me for the hotel charge (they didn't reimburse for anything else). Considering you're traveling in the summer, I'd say skip Porter, and drive. And you can even stop at Niagara Falls on the way up.

But you waste at least two full days of a one week trip driving. The major benefit of driving is passing through Niagara, but you can see that if you get a one-day rental in Toronto.

I’ve done the drive before and it’s about 10 hours of drive time plus breaks.

We started from Alexandria early around 6am and took an early lunch break in Altoona; kept driving and took an afternoon break about an hour from Buffalo.

Made it to Buffalo and waited for Immigration and then drove the last hour and change into Toronto. Checked in to hotel and wandered out for dinner and had great night of heavy sleep.

Stayed five days and then drove from Toronto to Niagara Falls CA and stayed overnight; left next day at 10am and home by 8pm or so.

Loved the drive - very scenic and DS loved seeing the bear crossing signs and driving through small towns.

You should be able to contact your carrier and get a CA plan temporarily, I think it's like $10 per day.

+1
There are pluses and minuses to each. What are your preferences and/or restrictions?

Just don't want to drive on narrow roads. Need an idea about the highway. Tried looking at the map didn't help much.
Definitely will save airfare and car rental.

Drive is about 10-12 hours depending on how fast you drive, number of stops, etc. It's not bad and I've done it multiple times. All on the interstates (two lane highways mostly). We mostly would drive overnight for our DD's sake, so deer were an issue at times, but that was the worst of it. The border crossing is a breeze vis a vis US-Mexico crossing. Plus, you will save a ton of money versus flying ($300~), and when you incorporate the drive to the airport, two hours waiting/security, flight, etc, that's at least 4-5 hours right there or 50% of the way!

If I remember correctly, T-Mobile covered Canada--to include data.

This is a great plan, especially the Niagara Falls part.
