sorry to make you sick... my friend is a lobbyist for the pipeline... so he is happier than pig in shit. (a pretty apt image of lobbyists) |
Proud of these youngsters for standing in solidarity with our diverse community especially after this unprecedented rise in hate local crimes fostered by Trump his alt-right campaign. |
The students were clearly sick. Sick of racism and bigotry. Sick of hateful rhetoric and action that had even spread into Silver Spring, a diverse area. School Principals have the ability to mark an absence as "lawful," and I am sure the schools' respective Principals will mark these absences as lawful. |
The ones I know are very, very informed about politics. |
So are they cured of their sickness now? Or will they be out sick for the next four years? |
My kid has taken a field trip to a farm. And that is educational. My kid has taken a field trip to a trolley car museum. And that is educational. Perhaps the principal sees experiences, not just instruction, as educational. Perhaps he/she sees one day of activism as just as valuable as understanding the histories of trolleys in our country. |

Cancer can't be cured overnight. |
Six pages and not one mention of the Students ignoring the Principals policy of returning to class at 11am. So sad people ignore the rules and then are admired when they break them. FTR I didn't vote for Obama in 2008 or 2012 and his "fundamental transformation", yet I never, NEVER said #notmypresident. Two sets of rules if you are a left leaning... sad really. |
From Sligo Creek Elementary School and the Just Up the Pike blog:
"On Thursday, two days after the election, my son (who is black) and two friends (one of which is black) went to the bathroom used by 3rd graders and saw: > KILL KILL KILL BLACKS He told his teacher and I believe the graffiti was removed. I wanted to get feedback on what WE, as a community, should do because it could have been your kid that saw it...School officials haven't responded at all. The principal is out until Thursday and no one seems willing to do anything until she's back. The front desk receptionist was clueless when parents called demanding action, and when she was unresponsive, parents called back and were told she was at lunch...They definitely want to sweep this under the rug if they aren't called out on it." We've heard that Sligo Creek school officials sent a letter out to parents noting the teacher had failed to notify administration about the graffiti when it was first reported. While it's good that they're finally responding, this kind of vandalism has become a growing trend in Silver Spring in recent weeks." This is unlike any previous post-election period. It is horrifying. |
My kid told me someone from her HS magnet program posted an offensive post/photo on his instagram (something like, "Hey loser, you won't get your food stamps anymore!"). I'd rather have a child marching peacefully than having that brat.. |
If it really happened you should report it to the principal. Everybody is evolving even magnet kids. |

You do know that many Republicans also didn't want Trump as president? Is that sad, too? If Mitt Romney had won, Bob Dole or John McCain had won we wouldn't be happy but, there would not be #heisnotmypresident. This is different and it is sad that you don't realize that we are now just like every third world country with a dictator. |
Yes, I can't believe it's not clear that this is not about politics. Reagan was my president, and so was George Bush. Even George W. Bush. This is more fundamental. |
The superintendent sent letters to schools allowing students to walk out of classes.
Principals allowed the students to leave their class to protest on the football field. They should be fired! Since when does a school allow kids to leave (unattended) to protest? It serves zero educational purpose (Trump is president, there is nothing to change). Sounds like the principals and superintendent are abusing their public servant positions to make their own political statement using students to do so. They should be fired over this, there is no way a school paid principal or superintendent should have condoned, let alone allowed the protests. It teaches students that the rioting, destruction and violence are OK, because the cause is noble, because the principal agrees with it. They should be teaching the kids that Trump is the president elect. If the kids want to protest/riot, they should do so after school, on their own time. |
