Bet the school administration will be lenient.

As they should.

Unexcused absence will be on their record regardless of their leniency. That may hurt these students when applying to colleges and it's about time we stop coddling these teens and realize that actions have consequences.

Agree

I watched the protest, they all just walked, talked, used their phone, and giggled. A few chants. They did however block traffic from people that needed to get to work, put more police (that they also hate and are against) to work to keep them safe, and missed an entire day of school work.

But sure, administration should be lenient.

Actually the students showed great respect and gratitude for the police. They made statements saying they worked well together. The kids I saw interviewed were incredibly articulate and clear about why they were there: Trump's bigotry does not represent them (said by a white student).

You do you.

He will never be my president.

Are you renouncing your citizenship? Like it or not, he will be the President of the United States. As long as you are a citizen, he is your president.

I live very close to Northwood, and I heard the cheering and shouting. I am frankly proud of the students for speaking out, and thankful to the police for safeguarding them as well.

Kids need to be in the classroom learning. Trump won fairly. Go back to class.

Peaceful public demonstration is a bedrock of our democratic system. America -- love it or leave it, baby.

+1 and I am a Republican although did not vote for Trump. I think one of the most chilling things I have heard Trump say is that it is "not fair" that people are protesting his election. Maybe he can go live with his best buddy Putin in Russia - here is the US, you take your knocks - if people want to protest your nomination they have the right to do so.

My kid is in that crowd, and I will be writing him a note saying I approve of his absence. He is devastated by this election and the aftermath and I am proud that he is speaking out.

For the record, he is a magnet student with a weighted GPA well over 4.0. I have zero concerns about college admissions.

That info is relevant because...?

Because PPs were saying that an unexcused absence would have a negative impact on college admissions.

That's ridiculous. I can't even comprehend focusing on that.

That's not how democracy works, right? How are you any different than narrowed minded Trump supporters?

Regardless of what you think, he IS your president.

Obama is president now until January 20th but, after that he is YOUR president, not mine. You can't make people like president orange. Did you accept president Obama? There were a lot of republicans who did not. Now the table have turned and we do not accept him.

Why didn't they wait until after the school day is over for their protest? Then it wouldn't disrupt the education of those who didn't participate.

But what do they want? When you protest, you are asking for change. What is the change that they want?

You don't know what they want? Trump has not implemented his ridiculousness yet, they are protesting.... immigration laws.... sexually assaulting women....

okay, i got you started you should be smart enough to figure it out.

This is my thinking also.

I didn't vote for Trump and think he's a misogynistic, arrogant jerk. But what precisely is the focus of this protest? What exactly do they want to happen?

It was also posted, (because they are racist narrow minded people) that this won't be an impacted because they will end up working at a McD.

Your post doesn't answer the question. Exactly, what do they want? Vote again until HRC wins?

Actually, vice-president Pense is going to be running things. Trump doesn't have the stamina and he will get bored very easily. But, I won't call him President either. We don't have a president, just an asshole who is in charge for four years.
