Car Accident/So Angry at My DH

Anonymous
My DH is teaching our teen DD to drive. He took her out today to practice and calls me a few hours later to say they were in an accident. My DD hit a tree, totaled DH's car. She was only going 10 - 15 mph. I came and picked her up and left DH to deal with police, insurance and towing. He came home later on his own. Now he says the car is totaled and we will need a new one. It did not have collision coverage b/c the idiot said the car was not worth paying for it. So, we are now down to one car - mine - and DH wants a new one. He can go f**k himself. He is always f**king sh*t up. After he came home, he says he needs to go to the doctor b/c his chest hurts. Everything is closed now, so he says he will just go to his doctor tomorrow morning. I told him to get a professional driving school, but he was too f**king cheap. I just want a divorce.

Doesn't seem like the car is the issue here.

Is your daughter OK?

If you want a divorce it won't matter what he did.

Seems like your anger is a little misplaced here. It was an accident.

And don't try to kill him.

How do you total a car going only 10-15 mph?

OP - It is clear you are frustrated and angry. But, learning to drive is challenging. Please be careful how you respond to DH about this incident. Your daughter is learning from you and how you interact. You really don’t want her to look back on this time and have her remember a totally angry mother because of something that happened when she was learning to drive. She will remember this day for the rest of her life. Help her remember it with some humor (I know this is hard now, but in 10 years you will want her to laugh about it). Life is just too short.

OP, you should not have "picked up your daughter". The accident and all the dealings w/the police, insurance, towing is an important learning process. Sometimes crap happens. You didn't want her to experience something bad. Kinda like you.

DH keeps saying that the car is replaceable and that I should be grateful that he and DD were not hurt. He did not call me right away after the accident, so that really pissed me more off. He said he waited b/c: a) he had to calm DD down; and b) was dealing with the police and insurance. As to the car being replaceable, I am sorry. I grew up poor and these things are not "just" replaceable, but he does not understand that.

If he goes out and buys another car, I swear I am going to divorce him.

You keep this up and you may find yourself alone. And poor again.

It was an accident. It happens. You are going on and on about a damn car. Be thankful your DH and your daughter are ok and move on.
