"Ths WSJ op-ed by 4-star Gen. James T. Conway (USMC ret.), who retired in 2010 as 34th Commandant of the Marine Corps., describes a 3-mile long tunnel built with concrete & iron imported into Gaza--including one tunnel that ended less than one kilometer (5/8-mile) from an Israeli kindergarten:

I recently had the opportunity to see for myself the moral chasm between how the Israeli Defense Forces and Hamas treat civilians during military operations. In May I joined a dozen other retired U.S. generals and admirals on a trip to Israel with the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs.

Just outside Hamas-ruled Gaza, we toured a tunnel discovered less than one kilometer from an Israeli kindergarten. Unlike tunnels that I had seen during the Iraq war that were designed for smuggling, this Hamas tunnel was designed for launching murder and kidnapping raids. The 3-mile-long tunnel was reinforced with concrete, lined with telephone wires, and included cabins unnecessary for infiltration operations but useful for holding hostages."

Oh, so your "under a kindergarten" is actually nearly a kilometer away from a kindergarten. No wonder you didn't want to reveal your source. Do you care to tell us what else was within a kilometer of the tunnel?

There are always varying reports. This one I believe is most accurate. But I'm sure, to you, this is of no never mind and the general lies. Typical Jeff response of 'nothing to see here'. 5/8 mile is pretty damn close, my friend. And you know it.

Let's agree this is the most accurate. It does not support your claim. So, what you said was wrong. That's cut and dry. If your point is that the tunnel was nearly a kilometer from a kindergarten, then I'll agree that there is some support for that allegation. I would also want to know what else is within a kilometer of that tunnel. If there was nothing else, that would be pretty incriminating. If there was an attractive military target, less so.

I saw what you posted . There is no evidence that it was to attack kindergarteners, that was the point I was trying to make

Then there is this, but you will say the Israelis lie:

It details the various Kibbutzim

We're they using it to bring candy and puppets? Is that what the handcuffs and sedatives found were for?

Where exactly would a tunnel emerge that was not near a kibbutz?

I don't think anyone has ever denied that there are tunnels in Gaza...I believe that Gazans have a right to tunnel out from under their open air concentration camp. How many times has Hamas come through these tunnels to place indiscriminate IEDs on Israeli roads? to put bombs beneath cars or trucks? to commit home invasions or murders? Who is killing babies as we type, bombing schools, mosques, hospitals? The majority of the 1000+ Palestinians killed are civilians, and they have the guts to put up cartoons of tunnels to convince the world they are in such danger?

What's it like being Muslim? Well, it's hard to find a decent halal pizza place and occasionally there is a hashtag calling for your genocide...

They used a tunnel to capture an Israeli soldier in the last war. I don't think they have done it to a civilian.

Should the Israelis leave the nunnels and wait and see? Would you tolerate a tunnel into your property in this situation?

Clearly they have been waiting to disclose and destroy these tunnels for some time. It's not like last week they said "oh there's a war, maybe we should look around for tunnels".

They didn't know the extent of the tunnels. The IDF has admitted they were surprised by what they've found.

Seriously, you believe that the IDF does not constantly patrol the Gaza border for tunnels? How is it that the Egyptians find them but the self-proclaimed best fighting force in the world does not?

You have your head in the sand on this one. Israel has these identified. They monitor them in the hopes of catching Hamas in the act somewhere. Claims of surprise are ridiculous. If Israelis really thought that these tunnels have been sitting there and the IDF didn't know, heads would roll. They are very critical of any security lapses or military failures.

Tunnels into Israel = terror tunnels. That fact is indisputable. They have no other purpose.

There is no reason to tunnel under a border other than to cross the border undetected. In Egypt, it is for good and people. Into Israel, I do not see the passage of good. So, it is people.

The people turn out to be well armed. So, Hamas is using th tunnels to invade Israel with Guerrilla attacks. Israel calls them terror attacks. I guess, we do not know if they are terror or Guerrilla until they are used....If they are for civilian targets, they are terror...otherwise Guerrilla. Neither is acceptable.

The big problem in this conflict is identifying the enemy. They store munitions in shelters; they fire from residential neighborhoods. And they don't wear uniforms. So, Israel has a choice: ignore the attacks, or fight back. They fight back, but they have to hit where the militants are....which is where they fire from.

Hamas is evil.
