OP, I've been called "white bitch" exactly twice - once by a crazy woman on the sidewalk and once by a young guy on a bus passing by. Oh, and I was waiting for a bus and talking to a man who told me he didn't like "light-skinned" women. None of these people had any power to make my life difficult. Yes, I thought the guy on the bus was an asshole but I could tell the woman on the sidewalk and the man at the bus stop were both a bit "off." Either way, I didn't feel threatened as a white person.
Now there was one time when I wasn't sure whether my dd would be accepted to a DC magnet school because she was white. At the interview, the head of the department was a little distant and left the room for a bit. After dd got in, I got to know the department head and it turns out she's just a really disorganized and reserved person so I realized that her behavior probably had nothing to do with my kid being white. And I understood much better the daily experience of African-Americans who come into such situations not knowing whether their race is an issue or whether something else unrelated is happening. It must be exhausting to deal with that. |

See I didn't know whites got offended by being called "white boy or white girl"(I'm guilty then of saying that & I'm guilty now of still saying it).I don't say it in a derogatory way (similar to how I call some of my buddies the n word we all are not saying it in a racial ignorant way) |

OP, since you asked (!) I have been in racist situations. Where there has been assumed "white guilt" if I am nice to a person of color. Hostile much? Where someone has pretended not to speak English, when they are clearly in the wrong. Don't underestimate me, you will be sorry, because the wrong will be "righted", right quick. |
PP here. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Yes. I'm usually the only white person in my classes at UDC and get discriminated by classmates and teachers before.
I'm also German and can't count the times I've been called a nazi here (I kinda count that as racism). |
The majority of the experiences thus far seem to fall into the category of either verbal slights/attacks or customer service oriented disrespect. What most of the incidents mentioned have in common is that the confrontations are primarily personal, one-on-one conflicts with "this lady" or "that guy", although a few involve group harassment usually by teens. I noticed there were no systematic incidents of racism mentioned, with the exception of maybe the mentioning of being in a majority minority environment like a particular neighborhood or wedding reception. But for the most part while the occurrences of being on the receiving end of racism may be frequent, the weight of those occurrences is significantly lesser because they aren't institutional. |
so . . .
You were jumped by girls who also called you names and you moved into an all-black neighborhood? short memory or very forgiving, I'd say

Similar thing happened to me in a different industry. It turned out to be the best thing that happened to me. I got another job, the firm that kept my competitor folded a few years later. She has been all over Linked In trying to get jobs that last for a year of so and then looking again for a new job. So sad. |
