I'm also German and can't count the times I've been called a nazi here (I kinda count that as racism).

See im sure that can feel odd@ being only white person...when I go to areas(restaurants/sports bars)where it might be 98% whites & I might be 1 of maybe 3 Black's in there.yet still feel odd until I talk to people & see they alright (at least in public..behind closed doors they maybe calling me all types of dumb "n" ..who knows)

When I made a a face that said "did you really just say that", he asked if I was Jewish. I told him I was. He replied back saying " oh, you don't look like one. I guess you can't understand ". So I suppose it was not directed at me, but it was crazy to actually hear someone say it. My happy little ideal world was burst that day.

I'm so sorry that happened, but is that Antisemitism not reverse racism? The bigot probably hates Jews of all races not just white ones.

Yes - as a white male in the 90's, I was denied admissions to UVA. A minority girl in my class with a lower GPA, SAT score and less activities, was given admission. (We were both applying as out-of-staters.)

First day of class was picked on and challenged to fight by a black kid. Finally agreed to meet him in parking lot after school. I showed up and what seemed like every black kid in the school. I was called racial slurs, pushed and taunted. A group of them followed me halfway home. Push turned to shove and I was beaten up. Parents called school. No action was taken. Was told by my peers I was stupid to meet a black kid after school (like this was common knowledge)
In 8th grade I had a crush on a sweet AA girl. We both liked each other. It was all innocent. Then Roots came out and she told me we couldn't be friends bc white people were slave owners.

Weird timeline. Roots was published in August 1976 and didn't air as a mini-series until 1977. If you were in 7th grade in the late 1960s; how many times were you held back in school that you were still in 8th grade in 1976? And don't tell us that you were actually in high school by then because even if you were in 7th grade 1999/70, you should have finished 12th grade by 1974. 2 years before Roots was even PUBLISHED as a novel. Did your little girlfriend have an advance copy?

You really are falling for this troll? He is not a young black dude but some bored mom who wants to get responses. She knows that the spelling and grammar thing is a pet topic on DCUM and has deliberately adopted it because most DCUMers will not challenged a "young black dude's" poor command of language.

I was at a party with a group of friends where I was only one of a couple of caucasians. I had socialized with these women frequently and our children were/are best of friends. A small group of us were talking and the AA women told me they only hang out with me because I am "white chocolate," otherwise the wouldn't want to be my friend. I wasn't sure what that meant and they explained that even though I am white on the outside, I am black on the inside and I should be flattered. Somehow, I don't think they would have found it so flattering if I had countered that I only hang out with them because they are oreos.

And yet, some white people insist on telling me that they don't really consider me black. Not like the other black people they know (like the 17 year old counter girl at McDonald's?). I know they mean it as a complement, but they get uncomfortable when I ask for specifics. Because they don't want to say that they think most blacks are some negative trait or behavior they think I'm better than.

Racism is an illness that knows no color barrier. It infects people of all colors and places of origins.

As an adult, living in DC I occasionally encountered what I assumed were people (AA) who were mentally ill because they'd murmur or out right call me "honky" or "cracker as*".
several times walking in urban area at night with girlfriend AA men (young) would say derogatory things to my girlfriend and make similar comments towards me I.e. "What you doing with that white boy?". girlfriend would want to cross street when we wer walking alone or in urban areas when blacks were approaching on same side of street. Sometimes called chastised or called racist when we crossed to avoid being in their path (no win situation).
Worked in white collar jobs during 70s and 80s when companies went through necessary hiring changes to promote and hire minorities and women. I think many people in my generation uncertain industries lost a promotion or hiring opportunity due to affirmative action - though not an example like others directed personally at me, the result was personal for crimes committed by past generations.
During OJ trial. Was at best buy in electronics section. Every TV was tuned to verdict "not guilty" every black person in store roared and applauded. AA near me turned to me and said "we won mother f*cker". That moment more than any other thing I experienced was the single most glaring example of racial divide in American culture at that time of the unity of blacks from the playground to the workplace and national events.
Everything I learned about racism I learned from AAs.

Are you me? So many similar experiences. So disgusting.

So if what people are describing is not racism, what would you choose to call it? Hate-based behavior motivated by race?

Yup, worked in a small office for a company specializing in black media, I was the only white, the people I worked with daily were awesome and it was a great job for that time in my life. But one of the big bosses would fly in from Other City a couple of times a month and would not talk to me, look at me, or answer my "good morning" or "hello." He told the officer manager that he wanted me to clean the bathrooms before I left each night - which was not REMOTELY in my job description, it was a professional level gig - and we had a daily cleaning crew. She basically told him to go to hell and get over himself. =D
