Ok, who owns this house?

I know poor people with better taste and decorating ability than these rich people. If they really want to sell the house, they would tone down some of the patterns and allow the house to show itself more. You can't see what it is because you are so distracted by a dining room with curtains that look like they belong on a clown, bold strips on the chairs in a TOTALLY different color scheme, that strange square pattern wall treatment and an uber traditional rug that goes with absolutely nothing in the room (with regards to color and pattern). That dining room has some really nice architectural details and they are absolutely lost in there. Don't even get me started on that family room. I think the interior decorator has taken one too many acid trips in their lifetime.

Flood!
That house should be elevated. Kent Island has flooded before. Flood insurance premiums depend on flood maps and house replacement cost value and past flood claims.

I believe they built that on top of a swamp

The home is owned by Gary L Mangum. They bought the home in 2006 for 2.7M.

I bet there is a back story there.

dumb question, but as I was reading the descriptions of each room, they mention the furnishing. Does that mean this house is being sold fully furnished?

Do you mean "astrophysics"? Because as someone who's not wealthy but IS an astrophysicist, it would be nice if you common folk learned how to spell it properly when you're making your ridiculous judgments. But I get it, you're not smart enough to even spell the name of my discipline. C'est la vie.

Actually, I'm smart but I don't give a fuck so...

Are you actually a realtor? I am not, but
SDAT clearly shows the purchase in 2006, but that the construction of the house was in 2010.

I read that to mean that the land (likely a farm sub-divide) was $2.6M.

Interesting, for a $34.5M price tag the tax assessment (which I know doesn't = market value) is set at just $5.4M.
Seems like a huge bargain for the owners!

The land--- 18.7 waterfront acres -- purchased for 2.7M is assessed at a mere $988k. My Bethesda lot of about 0.27 acre is assessed > $500k.

I've never understood this mentality. There are plenty of other ways to spend money. Think of Bill Gates or Warren Buffett or, on a less grand scale, those who believe that making charitable contributions trumps tasteless conspicuous consumption.

Who did you hire to decorate your Silver Spring rambler?

So how do you know they don't contribute to charities? And BTW, Bill Gate house in Washington state can be seen from space.

The house is nice, though some of the decor is a little much. And I can't imagine "needing" a spa room AND a theater AND a billiards room......

Do you think they commute to DC or something? This is probably a weekend home.

When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a house on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest house in all of Kent Island.
