Question for thick-skinned, overweight men and women

Anonymous
I think the above discussion really shows how distorted our views have become with regard to what is thin, normal, chubby, chunky, fat, obese, etc.

Because over half the population is now overweight, a "normal" sized person now seems downright thin and the chunky person seems normal, and the fat person seems chunky.

But just because our perceptions have changed doesn't change the health issues surrounded with carrying extra weight.

+100 I'm a normal weight or the thinner side of normal according to BMI and height weight charts. I wear tiny sizes because of vanity sizing and people tell me I'm thin when I'm not, just normal.

I don't understand why the 200 lb poster with the pictures thinks that no one would think this is what 200 lbs looks like. I would have guessed 200 lbs.

I'm also on the thinner side of normal, but I wouldn't have guessed 200lbs.

I envy her self-confidence, even if she is on the heavier side. I'm sure I have a body image issue, but I wish I could enjoy a glass of wine without thinking that one glass will make me fat.

Believe me, I'm not confident now!!! At 160 (white dress), yes. And that was not overweight, IMO. But I do think it's a matter of discussing this with women who are on the thinner side and prefer the lean look. I remember a thread not too long ago about Scarlett Jo on the beach and the women here thought she looked fat!

I am very normal, not thin, not overweight. I am 5'5" and 140 pounds. I would really like to lose 10 to 15 pounds. At that weight I would have a flat stomach, which I've never had.

Despite being normal, certain heavier coworkers are constantly telling me to eat more, that I'm so skinny, that if I lose any weight their will be nothing left, etc. It drives me bonkers. Americans definitely have a distorted view of what is normal.

I am the PP who just said I was normal. I think SJ looks fabulous there. But she probably weighs no more than 120-130 there.

So do I. But the women of DCUM gave her a beating. Same with Kim K who I think has an absolutely fantastic body.

To the PP with the pics:

You look very good wearing your bikini. After 3 children??? yes! I am 28 yo, no children and am recovering from a big weight loss (50 lbs) and believe me: at 150 and 5,7" you look way better than me! I am white and my skin looks awful and full of stretch marks. you go girl!

I agree. I'm the poster w/ the pics. Even when I was this weight, I can remember trying to frantically diet to lose 10-15 lbs. Didn't happen and I just went with it and enjoyed my vacation. Now that I'm 30 lbs over this weight, I look back on those pics with envy (even though I wasn't perfect at that size). When you gain weight, you tend to look back on old pictures and think "Why was I so obsessed with losing weight. I looked great!". Perhaps when I finally meet this target goal, I'll remember that I wasn't happy with it in the past and will lose more weight.

I will say that weighing 120-140 lbs is not what I like. I do love how I look in the white dress, so that's what I'm aiming for. If folks thinks that's overweight...well, color me stumped!

but you didn't need to lose 10-15lbs - you needed to lose 30+ lbs.

And yes, I agree with the PP - you do not look sexy or attractive. Its a skewed conception based on the fact that many other women who look like you are likely even heavier. I live in a predominately African American area and at the pool, you are right, you would be considered rail thin.

Question for you: Which body type do you find more attractive: Kim K and Beyonce or Giselle and Natalie Portman?

I just have no self-control. I have a perfect life aside from this. Good marriage, great kids, successful jobs, educated, etc... and I have both the means (time, access to a gym) and the money to exercise. I am lazy. I hate exercising. I hate sweating. And I eat when I am happy, sad, depressed, celebrating something, bored, and on and on! I eat all the time and I love food.

I occasionally catch a glimpse of myself on the mirror and think, "Wow, I look huge". But more often than not I think, "I look pretty good!" But in pictures is where I look gross. So I avoid the lens. I am 30-40 lbs overweight.

Kim and Beyonce are both very fit. Just a different body type. PP's pictures are not fit at all.

AA Man here. Unfortunately, you are 100% correct.

I think you might be confused. I never claimed to be fit. Only that, at 160, I felt sexy and I want to get back there. If you believe I was fat in the white dress, you're clearly just not willing to admit when you're wrong. There's nothing remotely fat about me in that pic. The other pics I posted was just to show my weight gain, so I know I wasn't fit in those....That's kind of my point.

I think the PP with the pics does look better than her weight would suggest - I certainly would look far worse on that weight. For one, she somehow looks taller than 5' 2''. That said, there is no comparison between that and Kim K or Scarlett Johansson. They are clearly several dozen pounds lighter than PP on what she considers to be her best photo ("white dress").
