Does anyone regret spending thousands of dollars on a wooden playset? I am about to spend $14,500.

I would buy something to please the younger ones (under 4 or 5) and not for the older kids.

Costco has some good deals for under $3k installed. $14k seems like way too much to spend on a backyard play structure.

I think someone who can afford to raise 5 kids in this area, have a giant yard, and still have $14,500 left over for a toy is either very rich or way underfunding their retirement and college accounts or both.

Open space, to set up a sprinkler, or host a soccer game, or wrestle with the dog is a high priority for my kid. The only way I'd want something this big in a yard would be if it still left lots of open space. Even then, I think one slide, one or maybe 2 play house type spaces, and a few swings is plenty.

OP,

Buy a fucking generator so that you can feed your brood and keep them warm during the next Snomageddon. Your 5 kids will not give a rat's ass at THAT point that there's no monstrosity taking over their backyard.

Way too much money. Any decent playset will get good use. And you could replace it many times over for the price of the one you are buying.

I have also looked at Rainbow, Cedarworks, and playnation but like woodplay the best. The playset is huge with two seven foot decks, and another smaller set attached. It has a playhouse, crawl tunnel, bridge, spiral slide, 14 ft slide, 10 ft slide, and big spiral slide. I can afford the money but I am not rich. I am supposed to go pay a deposit today but I feel really bad about the price. I have five kids age ranges from 17 Months to nine years olds so I know I would get lots of use. I have been looking for about a year and this one has everything and is perfect for the kids of diffrent ages. It was a custome design so I can not find an exact one but one of the sets looks exactly l it looks as nice and similar to this

Then there is a bridge and crawl tunnel connecting it to another set that looks kind of like this

The only diffrence is the second pic I will only have one 10" slide off the smaller deck and the playhouse is om the top bottoms are open. What I want to know is for those pf you that spend $8000 or more on a playset do you have any regrets? Do you feel you are getting your moneys worth out of it?

Everyone I know who bought a monster regretted it. Get a green slide and roof if possible. youngest is 17 months and the oldest 9. If all were less than 6 then maybe. I'd go with one open slide so they can be seen, one platform and 2-3 swings. Once the youngest hits 11 it will be coming down.

OP, just one thing to know... Our big playset (which has gotten a lot of use) does have to be treated for bees. Those corners and interior roof lines are a great place for nesting to occur. Just a FYI.

Can you get a local craftsman to construct something cheaper? I still have fond memories of the play structure my neighbor's dad built spanning our backyards. It was much simpler, but that gave us more space for imagination and growth. And because it was custom built, much nicer and sturdier than anything prepackaged.

This is obnoxious and not even an appropriate use of the phrase. The OP is not complaining, but asking. Get a grip.

Oh also - with so many kids, would be cool to invest in various backyard options so they can have choices instead of fighting over the same stuff.

I agree. First PP, incorrect use of the "first world problems" meme.

dear God

Why not build a play McMansion next to it?

Ok. Unless you live in some exburban area where no neighbors have to look at this from their back patio, just, no:

I'm pp.

Also, see Mormons.

Looks like a ton of fun OP. Hope your kids love it!

If I were my 15 year old self again, I would LOVE the other one. Great place to light up.

OP, you really don't need either of these. They will not be enjoyed by any children past seven, and even yours would probably prefer to go to a park where there are other children to play with.
