I'm an African American. Ask me anything.

OP Here. College is expensive and hard work. Plus, you sacrifice current earnings by going to college. I think most, if not all people go to college for educational interest and advancement. You have to have access to a lot of money to just go to college for the hell of it.

But you might not care as much if it's not your money--scholarships, grants or financial aid for select groups such as AAs.

I'm black and got about $2k total from grants. I did apply for a merit scholarship and that was another $2k or so. But I paid for the bulk of my education.

There are many scholarships available to minorities. There are also many scholarships available to women only, whites of various ethnicities (Jewish, Irish, Italian, etc). What is your point?

Do you honestly think that AAs are given free rides to college? If so, where the heck was my free money? These student loans are kicking my ass!

I remember a t-shirt from the 90s "It's a Black thing. You Wouldn't understand"

Could you please explain it? Thanks.

+1

My parents paid for undergrad and grad living expenses, but that grad tuition is something else. I must have missed all of my free money too! Lol!

Do you eat and enjoy chitlins, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, cow tongue and/or pigs feet?

Do you tend to correct others when they mispronounce a word or make grammatical errors or do you let it slide?

If you have a car, what kind is it? Do you dress down? I notice many AAs tend to dress fashionably.

Would you feel uncomfortable walking around in a predominantly black urban neighborhood where people are chillin on their stoops on a weekend day?

AA lady here- I loved chitlins for a short time in my youth with hot sauce, bleh at them now. LOVE fried chicken, greens, and cornbread. Never had chicken and dumplings. Only like cow tongue when my Peruvian friends mom cooks it. Pigs feet ... I gag at the taste and texture.

No, I wouldn't call anyone uppity because of that word's history and I hate to think blacks now use it towards each other.
