John Edwards Affair/Love Child

It's on the website someone listed earlier:

It's totally amateur night. I could've shot better video on my camcorder. Obviously Hunter was not hired for her videography talent.

Agree, it's pathetic. Everything he says is borderline offensive - like making fun of his staff, which he implies is stupid and overpaid. It would be the first thing edited out by a normal person.

Newsweek.com has a fascinating piece about the woman too. She didn't exactly keep their relationship a secret.

Oh, also the story implies they were still dating as of spring 2007, which would pretty much make the lovechild his.

Okay, I have to stop following this stupid story!

There's a thought I can agree with! Everyone seems to accept that because of his handling of the situation, Edwards has removed himself from political relevance. Therefore, the details are no longer a political story, but fodder for gossip columns.

Well, not necessarily. Edwards (and Elizabeth) decided that even though he had this messy affair, he would still run for president of the United States. (Also, he was still HAVING the affair while running for president.) It IS a modern American political story in that sense.

However, this is a mom's board, and this sort of thing does strike a nerve here among some women: cheating husbands, the illusions of a perfect marriage and equal partners, an illegitimate child (probably every mom's worst nightmare) etc. etc. So I suppose it IS gossip, but then again it's also relevant. You don't see, for example, a ton of posts here about Britney Spears or other starlets. This is a little different.

Also, frankly, if it IS his child, and he's had people paying off Andrew Young and Rielle Hunter with free rents and great sums of money, it is also quite a story about how money can be used to achieve just about anything.

OMG, I just read this and this makes the story worse. He had an affair with a ditz obsessed with astrology who was convinced she could tell who is an "old soul." The old "old soul" line -- a New Age pick up line if there ever was one. What an idiot he is! (What an idiot I am for thinking he was worth supporting!)

If you're going to have an affair, at least have one with a grown up!

Despite my earlier comment that I was through with this story, I just read this story in the Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/15/us/politics/15edwards.html?hp

Yuk!!

Shame on John Edwards, and, frankly, on his wife, who seems to have encouraged him to run for president despite knowing of this affair. Edwards himself lied throughout this episode and continues to do so. "99% honest," indeed. And shame on the mainstream media, which failed to cover this for so long. Can you imagine what would be happening now if Edwards were the putative Democratic nominee?

In my view, all shame related to this belongs to John, not his wife.

Speaking of narcissism, Rielle Hunter is quite self-involved herself, according to this bizarre little story. It's hardly reassuring that Edwards chose to get involved with this kind of person:

14:12 here. I feel sorry for Elizabeth, yes. But she and John actively and deliberately sold the image of him as a devoted husband and family man well after he claims he informed her of the affair. And were Edwards the putative nominee, we'd be facing a train wreck.

After reading the article cited above, I came to a few conclusions:

John Edwards may have a drug problem.

George W Bush is smarter than John Edwards.

John Edwards got EVERYTHING in life because he is "handsome".

I would like to do a drug test on him, in addition to paternity testing.
If he is not on drugs, an immediate visit to a shrink.
Also, an IQ test would be in order.
