John Edwards Affair/Love Child

Anonymous
Well, it's a little odd that Andrew Young has let his mistress and his illegitimate child move in with his wife and three women - esp. into a mansion that none of them are paying for themselves!

Then again, my source for this is Fox News.

Here is what I am now thinking--I think Elizabeth Edwards might have found out what was going on in 2006 and had this lady fired from campaign thinking she would go away. But nooooooooo..I think John boy might have told wife it was over and it wasn't and low and behold this lady finds herself prego to trap him--of course he had to sleep with her to make this happen. Now Edwards has to deal with mad wife, mad mistress and possible jail time if he was funneling campaign money to his mistress..not to mention mistress might be in trouble if she hasn't paid taxes on money she has received. Who need actors when real life stories are much more compelling. Bill Clinton most likely would be enjoying seeing Edwards squirm if there wasn't the Elizabeth Edwards component.

Add to this that the man who took the fall for Edwards and claims that the lovechild is his, is an ex-con who is in debt and has a long rap sheet of minor crimes. Now he's apparently receiving monthly payoffs and free rent.

I would LOVE to see Edwards go to jail. What would make it nice is for Elizabeth to find a good man while he is there.

You know, it takes two to commit adultery. You've got a charismatic guy that has had some terrible tragedies in his life. You have a woman who is, to say the least, an opportunist. Some of us knew Lisa in the old days and she was a predator then, and probably still is now. Yeah, he lied because he didn't want to get caught. And then he fessed up and at least didn't drag his wife out to stand by him

What do you want from these people? Did you think he was perfect? Do you really believe his behavior lowers the bar? Do you live in Washington or what? What don't you understand about the pursuit of power with men? I've been in this city for 25 years and I have to tell you that there are very few men who have climbed the ladders of power that aren't availing themselves of the sexual benefits that go with it. Men are NOT WOMEN! Men can achieve wonderful things, write inspiring lines, behave with extreme bravery, and still be debased by the right woman. It doesn't make them bad people, it makes them Men.

I always thought Edwards had to be stepping out on her anyway. Before she got sick, I remember seeing the Edwardses together and thinking she looked like his mother. Sort of reminded me of Poppy Bush and grouchy old Barbara with her pearls on. And what do you know, he was cheating too. He had a longtime girlfriend. These pols need to find some discreet bimbos, not high-class ones like "Rielle" aka Lisa whose clocks are tick-tick-ticking.

Wow. So if a wife starts to show her age, it is inevitable that her husband - regardless of his wedding vows or any sense of loyalty - will cheat on her? I guess if I don't botox my forehead I'm just asking my DH to find himself a girlfriend. After all, he is good-looking and makes a lot of money. And me, well, I'm facing my 40s. It's just a matter of time before my DH forgets all about his promise to me to be my partner in life.

You realize how ridiculous this assumption is, right?

Sorry, I have to take exception to the "bebased by the right woman" comment. You cannot really be saying that it is the woman's fault that these men are "lowered" into having affairs. They always have the option of walking away. Also, a married man who sleeps with a woman who is not his wife also needs to take precautions - good god, condoms are a dime a dozen.

I understand your point but characterizing Edwards this way is kind of demeaning to men, too, isn't it? Makes them sound like these helpless puppies who can't control themselves when confronted by a strong, calculating woman. Edwards is Edwards and not every man does what he did. It's not fair to excuse him by labeling a whole class of people as deficient.

I don't think what he did was a good thing by any means, but it seems very Orwellian to me that an affair should be criminally punished.

Not for the affair, but for misappropriation of campaign funds.

I actually think that a lot of guys in power are actually pretty nice--my hubby falls into this category as are his friends--some of which you may know and be surprised at how dedicated they are to their wives/families. My hubby says that the same guys who treated woman badly in college, go on to be jerks and an honerable guy will continue to be honerable even with added money and power. I remember when Edwards was in the news a lot and my hubby was the first to say that he was a phoney--even in his financial dealings (too long to go into) and he chided me when I said that maybe his one redeeming quality was his marital relationhip--my hubby said there is always a pattern to sleeze in that you can't compartmentalize--if you are cheating in one area, probably are in another and ..he was right. As for Edwards going to jail--he will only be headed that way if he broke the law in that if he was using campaign money illegally.

The rap sheet part has been reported widely and is absolutely true.

Here's the rest. It's a doozy.

I am sorry but this statement doesn't make much sense. There are men who were nice guys in college but all of a sudden with a bit of money and power they suddenly feel invisible. And I am sure the same thing your husband says to you is the same thing John Edwards says to his wife. This of course, doesn't mean that your husband is cheating on you, but his whole reasoning on "Once a jerk, always a jerk", doesn't make much sense.

Wow, finally saw the webisode, "Plane Truths," that Rielle Hunter did of Edwards. If someone had written this for a movie, we would all say that it was ridiculous. Deeply ironic and just plain weird.

It's on the website someone listed earlier:
