Sorry For The Beck Thing

Oh for heaven's sake ... get over yourself, PP. Glenn Beck is no Hitler ... he's also no intellectual, no savior, ... I could go on. He's a big nobody and frightens me not.

It doesn't end with the rally, just like Sarah Palin didn't end with the 2008 elections. I think this was a test from the right. It's like dropping something small into a placid lake and seeing how far out the ripples will go. The far right is playing with fire ... driving a wedge between cultures, ethnicities, and religions.

Does anybody ever wonder how people could live with their neighbors for years, decades, even centuries... then almost overnight, they're killing each other over ethnicity, past slights? I'm thinking of Rwanda, Yugoslavia ... but then you are probably thinking, that happened over there. WE are DIFFERENT. We aren't that different.

I have other things t do so I'm just going to let you keep worrying and obsessing about all these things. Thanks for the free time.

The far right is not the only ones driving wedges around this town.

Many Republican voters just want the government out of their Medicare. In 2040, there will be voters wanting government out of their Obamacare.

He's not even a particularly good Christian.

Bing! Bing!

Which is why, over the course of history, we (progressives) win. You folks can hold your white pride rallies, restore honor to whatever... but just as women got the vote, blacks got the vote, and interracial marriage became legal, gay marriage is going to be uncontroversial in twenty years.

Think of it on a smaller scale: I remember in the 80s when a guy having an earring was the most transgressive, boundary-pushing act imaginable. Now only the most down-home, inbred, country-music listening shit-kicker in Possum Waller has an earing. But it's Fucking America, bro! In twenty years, we'll be treated to Red State bloviating about how damn Yankees don't know how to throw a gay marriage.

Obviously, folks have the right to peacefully assemble, but the place and time chosen for this event is pretty disgusting, and gratuitously provocative. So to my neighbors of all races, I'd just like to apologize for the white folk who make us all look like we're living in 1964 Alabama.

Did any minorties attend the rally? I haven't seen any.

17:49 ... if you are representative of Progressives, which I doubt, then you aren't doing your group any favors.

Ah, yes. Right, I forgot that in order for progressives to win national elections, I personally have to avoid offending anonymous douchebags on internet comment forums. Sounds like a winning national electoral strategy.

He's not even a particularly good Christian.

Well, you're right bc he's Mormon, not a real Christian.

But, he could easily attract the disaffected, white supremacists, skinheads, unemployed factory workers & unskilled laborers in general ... not to mention the disgruntled middle class ...

I meant more that he doesn't have a good understanding of Christian belief systems. For instance, he made this big point about liberation theology and it was wrong. I can't tell whether he is just not knowledgeable or whether he thought this is a convenient justification for attacking Obama without directly calling him racist.

I don't want to make a judgment about Mormons vs. other Christian religions.

I don't assume all muslims are terrorists, or all blonds are dumb, or all white people are glenn beck supporters. I assume others see that support for political issues is not linked to the color of one's skin or religion or hair color any other distinguishing characteristic.

I reread my post and nowhere do I see the word "apology". I am not apologizing for Bech because there is no need to do so. He and his supporters have the same right toassemble as the supporters of MLK's "I Have A Dream Speech." I think MLK would also have supported Becj's right to speak and his supporters to assemble because he was for "Equality" not "Special Treatment."

Huh??? Apology is the 7th word of the post and Sorry is the first word of the title. It sure sounded like an apology to me.

In this country "Freedom of Speech" is a guaranteed Constitutional right even if you don't like what is being said. Glen Beck, et. al, have as much right to speak and assemble as do MLK group. Shame on you for wanting to take away someone else's rights by trying to be so damn politically correct.

My post in in italics and as I count the 7th word is "is" and, again, the word "apology" does not appear. There is nothing in my post that sounds even remotely apologetic because there is nothing to apologize for becaue Beck, Palin, Sharpton, and you have have guananteed free speech. It does help if one actually knows to which post one is responding. Otherwise, it makes the responder look like a fool.

You are correct - you do look like a fool. I was repponding to the OP. In fact your post wasn't even posted at the time I was typing my post. If I was replying to your post i would have quoted it. Since I was replying to the OP no quote was necessary because it is obvious that was in response to the OPs post.
