WAY BETTER public transport

virtually zero gun crime

Zero school shootings

Affordable healthcare for all

Murder rate is virtual nonexistent

Obesity rate is below 5% while US is 50%

People obey the law

Virtually zero fare evaders on the Shinkansen

High speed internet and cell phones everywhere.

I do not give a crap about toxic work culture. I’d take that little zit vs school shootings and America’s unaffordable healthcare snd obesity. Do Americans realize how much it sucks to live in america?

so you would die of karoshi?
the sexism of men in corporate world is appalling

have you been bullied in a japanese school?

people romanticize japan
japan is great for tourists
living there is a different game
take a short term job & try it

love the food, the transport & the culture
vacation there

For example, in the DMV you now regularly encounter hawkers trying to sell flowers, to drinks, to other trinkets at intersections. You now have unlicensed mopeds and scooters all over the roads in PG, MoCo, and DC. Drive all over the beltway and you'll see all sorts of trash people dump from used mattresses to bag bags and bags of contractor waste on the side of the road. You know where you see all of these kinds of things? In second and 3rd world countries. That is what the US has become. People just stop caring about the law and take great liberties with it. You know why 2nd and 3rd world countries are the way they are? BECAUSE people in those countries have a toxic mindset of ignoring the law and have low standards for themselves. It results in things like dumping trash on the side of the road. Now the US is importing tons of this same kind of mindset by the fistful. You never see hawkers and mass quantities of mopeds and scooters driving how ever they want in civilized countries like Japan, South Korea, or Denmark. It's just death by 1000 cuts in the US. Everything is in decline and I honestly can barely tell the difference anymore between a country like Vietnam or Thailand vs the US. I still think the US has further to go down and will be more of a central American country soon in terms of development, quality of education, and crime. Just lawlessness, no semblance of identity, and trashy ingrained attitude.

I like these rants because 99% of the time it’s a liberal complaining about things caused by liberal policies

I would have moved there with kids, BUT, I would've put them in a private school with the intention of sending my kids to the US or Europe for college. I don't want them to deal with hagwons and the like.

As for the office culture, it is terrible. I wouldn't want to work for a Korean company, that's for sure. If I could, I'd work for a US company, and while I know the office culture would still not be the exact same as the US offices, it wouldn't be as bad as the Korean companies.

If they could fix their office culture and stressful school environment, it would be an ideal place to raise a family. Super safe in every way.

My kids are now in college and junior year in HS, so it's too late to move now. My DC's HS had two lockdowns last year, where at least one gun was found on a student. DC was super scared when that happened. Ugh. Horrible.

My kids don't want kids here because they don't want them to have to go through school shooting lockdowns, and the insane college process that my college aged DC had to go through.

We've taken our teens over summers to visit China, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, Italy, Costa Rica over the years. My kid at 14 has said she has decided to apply to college overseas and will be doing her best to live a life overseas. My other kid has a learning disability and is not required to take a language in HS but he's still taking a language specifically because he's out of here. I support them 100000000%!

Some dyslexics find Japanese easy to learn.

lol totally makes sense. The language is read backwards

I don't know if I want my kids to live there unless they go to an international school.

Is it reasonable to assume there's no matzo ball soup to be found there, no real Jewish population?

No.

I am in the us for 25 years and people ask me where I am from 😁

Anonymous wrote:I get what you are saying. We've talked about moving to Sweden or Germany but we worry about acclimating. It sounds great but the reality just seems lonely and hard. One reason these countries have all these desirably features is that they have very homogenous and insular cultures. That's why crime is so low -- high social cohesion. They tend to be suspicious and unwelcoming of outsiders. It's great for people who are born there but I don't think it's as easy to just adopt those countries as your own as you might hope.

Do you have family there? How fluent are you?

OP has no connection to Japan whatsoever. She’s doesn’t speak the language. Probably took a single vacation where she embarrassed herself and alienated every local she encountered. Except she didn’t realize their external politeness even in the face of that is a function of the culture. It doesn’t mean she’s welcome.

OP is a he.

Yep.

Clean, safe, educated people.

Everyone is so polite, willing to help you. Never did we feel safe in the big cities. No trash anywhere. Food healthy.

Here, cities dirty and crime everywhere. Many drug users. In US education is not valued. Too many people on welfare. And tooooo many illegal immigrants where Japan has virtually none.

We are wasting to much money on social programs, welfare, migrant aid and not using money for roads/bridges. In Japan everything is well maintained.

US is in decline. If you don’t see it, then you’re blind. We had family visit from out of country. They were disgusted at The shit in San Francisco and witnessed a robbery.

Shame.

Japan is an island - easier to keep out the immigrants.

They evidently have a Border Czar who knows what a border is for.

So, are you still voting for Democrats who have controlled the major cities for years (except in NYC, where it became liveable under Republicans) and whose party supports non prosecution of criminals and unfettered immigration?

Well, you are from somewhere else, and the people are probably trying to make conversation. If you choose to live somewhere where you are both a minority and an immigrant, you will be an outsider. That's the same everywhere.

I lived in China, Japan and Singapore as a white guy and loved it. Manila too. Maybe women need to change their attitude and get with the program

Europe is meh for everyone tho. Super low income, massive taxes, and they too are being flooded with immigration that is changing their way of life.
