This is what civilized countries look like, Americans:
![]() Let’s day Japan were underreporting violent gun crimes by 10x (lol, impossible). Guess what, Japan would still be >20x better in terms of gun crime. That’s how barbaric and uncivilized the U.S. is. 600% worse than even Canada. It’s not just school shootings. Just go read up on > 50 shootings in a single weekend like when July 4 rolls around in Chicago. Many more shootings and innocent bystanders hit by stray bullets simply due to handguns. US looks more like Brazil and El Salvador than they do with counterparts like Canada, Germany, Japan, South Korea and the rest of the civilized world. But at least you supposedly have your freedumbz! (Meanwhile cops run over civilians with civil forfeitures). Freedumbz in the U.S. is such a hoax. |
Chicago is controlled by Republicans. |
No, certain parts of the US look like Brazil and Guatemala. I live in Old Town Alexandria, and we are far more like Japan than, say, across the river. The people and culture are what make it dangerous, not the inanimate objects. |
Average US citizen is quite dumb, meaning they need strong societal norms to keep their civilization running smoothly. Yet some people including the crowd here insist on demolishing those norms because "you do you" and then wonder why the country is turning into 3rd world. |
lol, no you don’t. Alexandria is a 3rd world s hole too: You know why they’d never do crap like this in South Korea or Japan? Because it makes so much noise and they’d be concerned about how much it impacts everyone around them. They’d be worried about the great shame it’d bring to themselves and their country. That’s what happens when you have a cohesive, conformist society that tries to better itself for all rather than trying to exist as a country of 300 million individuals with freedumbz and rights! |
Alexandria is most definitely a dump, including old town. |
Ummm... are you 12? Because you obviously have no historical knowledge and don't follow current events. |
They're joking. |
Congrats on being a white guy! You are a winner at life. |
+1 Funny, but not everyone got it. Once you filter for these liberal stronghold crime-ridden cities, your chances of dying from gun violence shrink considerably. Ironically, the liberals are the ones crying about the results that were directly created by their liberal policies. |
? School shooting happen in both red and blue counties, but most of those blue counties are in red states: TX and FL. Don't kid yourself. |
Don’t complain about school shootings but then cite overall shooting statistics of which 99% don’t involve shootings at schools and instead involve hardened criminals killing each other. |
Exactly. School shootings, while sad, account for a very small percentage of deaths due to gun violence. |
There is no PERFECT place to live, say it over and over.
There is only places you prefer to live. Japan is amazing but like everywhere else, it's not the perfect place esp for those who do not understand Japanese culture. It can be for you if you really get it however. But that's not for most Americans. If it were, the US would not look like it does now. Crime can happen and it does happen everywhere. There's no safe place, not anymore these days. But statistically, many places are less likely going to see you likely be in a violent situation. So be grateful for this and realize that taking into consideration where you are going to be happiest is about more than the stats on violent crime or even pollution or etc. It's about more than 2-3 things but about taking the best of many many factors that will definitely impact your lifestyle in some way or other, whether Japan, US, Scandinavia, W Europe, etc. |
Visiting Japan for the first time, I get it.
The difficulty of learning the language is considerable. But the concern for each other’s well-being and the absence of concern about safety add to a spirit of serenity. |
